Anyone making the claim that Bush was some nice guy who was just too stupid to adequately perform the role of President is actually giving a pretty scathing criticism of him.

If he's too stupid to do the job and knew it he should have not run, or resigned. And if he didn't know it then he has an entire cabinet of people (many far more dubious, perhaps even evil than he himself) whose job is to literally remove the President under such a situation.

Stupid people get charged with crimes all the time. He and his whole cabinet should have gotten the needle at the Hague years ago. And Blair. And Sarkozy. The list goes on.

Lol they're already calling the man that started this almost 20 year war based on lies and deception and caused a recession a good person and well meaning. Love it

I hated that man, but these days seeing what's going on I realize the goal back then was to use him as a shield for Cheney's shadow presidency. He was an effigy for the party and I was/am supposed to hate him so that the whole basket of deplorables could and can continue to avoid that same disgust for their role in everything.

I think the hagiographies are coming out in greater force at this moment because once Bush left office he left the public spotlight. The part of the Republican party that wants to keep on existing after Trump is gone is laying the groundwork for how a former Republican President should act post Presidency. Once Trump starts breaking that norm and starts making Obama's occasional post-presidency comments look like vaugebooking they'll go after him for it.

My logic here is that a lot of Trumps Republican fanclub is the "Red or Dead" fanclub. They really do like what he has to say, but in the end they're just following and cheering on their tribe and once he's no longer in the place he is that loyalty to the party will , *ahem*, trump the loyalty to Donald.
