Idk... Politicians are not out for the good of humankind, so you should scope down to the US.

Democrats have generally continued governing in a way that benefits society writ large.

Republicans have been out to help the multi-millionaires since Reagan. They have occasional detours (like Bush's homelessness focus), but really they are a party of tax cuts and primarily tax cuts for the biggest tax payers.

So I would argue more like 99% of the US.

The intelligent Democrats outnumber the intelligent Republicans who know that their politics are bankrupt but will prioritize their immediate self interest over the general welfare and existential threats (so long as those threats are well after they are dead, like climate change).

The reason we lose is that the dumb left doesn't vote whereas the dumb right is motivated to "own the libs." We don't have the margin of error for things like minor defections (third party voters). If we could cultivate that sort of loyalty, then we could actually move to the left.

Owning the libs is a recent phenomenon. The dumb right has been listening to right wing media for decades though, and that's all about motivating you via fear. Fear of the socialist boogeyman, fear of terrorists, fear of minorities coming to take your jobs, fear of people coming to take their guns, whatever can scare people.

Owning the libs is great, but you can do that over Twitter without casting a vote. You need that constant fear that those traitorous democrats are just inches away from completely destroying the American way of life to actually get people out to the polls.
