New York went from violent shithole to one of the safest cities in America but yeah my friends from out there say they can sense a shift already, and crime stats of all kinds appear to be breaking bad

their homicide rate in 2018 was 289 compared to a high of 2245 in 1990 (the then murder capital of the USA babyyy), actually a remarkable success story.

People from NYC sick of the crime/garbage/congestion and don't feel safe in NYC with the pandemic.

In August alone, there were 242 shootings in the city, compared with 91 last year, and the number of murders rose from 36 to 53. As a result, the city surpassed 1,000 shootings before Labor Day, making it the worst year for gun violence since 2015, with four months left to go.

Maybe it's because she's almost 80 and NY has always been her home. She just kinda shrugs and thinks "at least it's not as bad as it used to be," lol. I'll have to ask her.
