In defense of that, if someone kicked in my door I'd probably send them a Shotgun slug straight to the face before I consider if they had humanitarian reasons for kicking my door in. That said I was under the impression it was a No-Knock Warrant and the Police were unannounced... however I did see what Mythe wrote so IDK.

The cops are supposed to run away and not fire indiscriminately into an area they have no sight on. That’s why the one cop was able to be charged. I think it odd he doesn’t also get charged with some form of manslaughter as well, but they’re not supposed to shoot into the building.

Idk if any of you have had someone pounding on your door, but you can’t hear anything being said except the pounding as it reverberates throughout the apartment. So if the cops were announcing themselves as they were pounding on the door, I can easily see how that announcement was never heard by those in said apartment.

It was a no knock warrant, but the officer knocked anyways. The residents and most of the neighbors never heard them announce themselves.

Still need an official release of the evidence that was presented to the grand jury to get a full picture.

he's being charged for shooting stray bullets in neighbouring apartments, ie locations not on their warrant/area of the incident. nobody is/was charged for shooting in the taylor place

Wasn’t the officers that made the decision to knock, they were given orders to do so according to NYT. Admittedly, the wording there could be more clear.

While the department had received court approval for a “no-knock” entry, the orders were changed before the raid to “knock and announce,” meaning that the police had to identify themselves.

The officers have said they did announce themselves, but Mr. Walker said he did not hear anything.

It goes back to the George Floyd situation. Let's imagine Floyd was faking as all get out to get away. Maybe he full on knew he paid with fake money. MAYBE HE MADE THE FAKE MONEY. Who gives a shit? They had his car, they had his information, and it was over fucking $20. Dude was never going to live life free and clear until they got the story. They didn't need to go that far over it.


Same with drug dealing. While, it's worse than a fake $20, it is still not worse enough to go on the attack. Go on the defense, back up after the shot, and reassess whether you can safely go in there. If not, let your boss or w/e know wtf went down and figure it out another fucking day.

If the dude had been running up and down the halls shooting everyone and they came in to try to subdue him, and accidentally shot an innocent in the process, then I could see it justified. But fuck the rest of this bs.

Stop lumping this in with George Floyd. They’re different situations and shouldn’t be used to draw comparisons for decision making on how to move forward.

Also im no expert but isnt firing warning shots a almost universally terrible idea in any situation like this?

That said, Breonna Taylor was murdered by police officers executing a bad warrant, under bad pretenses, and did bad things while doing so, the fact that under our current system they really did do nothing wrong except not shooting her more should be a stunning indictment of law enforcement.

I don’t think anyone’s arguing that. The law clearly is shit if things like this can happen and there’s no repercussions. There needs to be change involved in light of the experience. What is stupid to say is all cops are bastards and here’s another example of racist bad cops that specifically went there with the intention of killing people. That’s a poor interpretation of this which won’t lead to any positive change for all.

I don't think the cops were racists. I think they were stupidly reckless and executed a bad warrant. I can't expect them to respond differently when they're being shot at, nor can I expect Walker to not defend himself if he doesn't know who the fuck is busting down his door. It was a lose lose situation.

What I do expect is there to be consequences because they took an innocent life, and the only consequence they saw was charges for shooting adjacent apartments instead of the woman who was sitting in her bedroom wondering what the fuck was happening.

I hate the second amendment, but this is literally one of the rights a person should have while it still exists.

You can't have an amendment allowing people to protect their home, then have a gov't sponsored group shoot the ever living fuck out of the place when you do it.


And even if the shooter was punished for his action, it in no way absolves the actions of trained policemen from responding so poorly that a sleeping woman dies.
