They re-added 3rd degree murder as a charge on Chauvin, which is incidentally a potential disaster IF he gets convicted of it.

The state Supreme Court is currently hearing an argument on 3rd degree murder as it relates to another case. Court is expected to rule in favor of the defendant, which would (according to legal people I've read) result in Chauvin's team being able to file an appeal and have the conviction expunged. Of course, only happens if he is

1) Convicted period
2) Convicted specifically of murder 3

The argument in the Noor case is that Noor didn't act with a depraved heart/mind. An example of a depraved mind is a wrong-way driver and their passenger pleading them to stop. In this case, Chauvin was asked by Lane twice to move Floyd over when it appeared Floyd was unresponsive and Chauvin denied him both times. That is an argument for depravity.

Pretty much. $27M won't erase the clip of his death being repeated over every social media & TV channel. Also the fact that his name is associated with an entire movement. Most of the other incidents are recognized by their killer (Trayvon Martin) or the city they perished in (Michael Brown).

I don't drink much, but all of this... if I had a kid and all of this had happened to me, lets just say that perhaps too much of that money would have gone into a bottle. Those are some tough parents. I feel bad for all parents and kids and siblings who have to go through needless ordeals like this.
