Puerto Rico has never actually asked for statehood as all their public referendums deadlock on the matter of statehood v. status quo v. independence (effectively endorsing the status quo), and DC statehood would likely require a Constitutional Amendment given the District Clause and a hostile SCOTUS.

Which is why should ACB be pushed through they pack the court with additional justices. I realize DC statehood would be somewhat of a challenge and PR probably more so. Still, we’re in uncharted territory here and I can hope that the possibility exists. Can’t think the Dems would flinch at the chance to add 4 more Senate seats. Obviously we need to focus on getting Trump and the GOP out of power first but the Dems should not be expected to “take the high road” again should the GOP just force through ACB.

I actually think Gorsuch will have more of a spine than Alito and Thomas. Roberts playing the long game so he won't sacrifice the system for Trump.

It would certainly be poetic if republicans lost the white house at the hand of the SCOTUS seat they fought so hard to steal.
