I need to get back to that game, I tried it once but somehow bounced off its cutesy look, but I wouldn't mind it at this point

Same. I have like 12 hrs into it. Just turned it on and have no idea whats going on. Maybe I should restart..
Seconding cosmic star heroine, though there are a few minor bugs, main one I ran into on the switch was soft locking the game when re-trying a boss fight that had adds after wiping. Believe the game was done by the same people who did Cthulu Saves the World as Cthulu is also an optional boss.
Yep; Zeboyd Games.
I think they're working on another one, too. Kemco also puts out a ton of low budget ones, but they're actually not half bad.
It's a magical girl RPG

I think the double post issue is that it posts, but also takes you to the advanced reply page so you post again thinking you need to.
Look, I was stuck with a garbage PC until recently and it's not like a PS5 is a reasonable option atm, either.
But yes, I actually believe putting effort into a game's aesthetics is important. I know some RPG players like to preach that graphics don't matter, but I'd argue that diminished standard has contributed to the mobile shift.
my steam library is easily 30% turnbased rpgs, most of which are recent, or re-releases of some oldies.
Like 99% of those games listed are on switch/PS4. None are PS5 exclusive and most are multi ports.
And even the PC ones, so long as you're fine with 1080p and low to medium graphics level are going to run fine.
My old rig I just replaced was closing in on 8 years old and was able to handle 1080p overwatch on high settings and 60fps which was my old monitors cap.

I don’t think there was a mobile shift. I think it was a handheld shift because of the PS3 was hard to program for and Japanese developers were still apprehensive with PC. So you had a lot of franchises go to the 3DS for that period From like…. 2009-2015? It’s actually really insane how Atlus put like 20+ RPGs out on the PS2 but PS3 they just put out Catherine (not an RPG) and P5.
That’s no longer the case, as we have great middleware and JRPG devs being way better at getting PC ports, Atlus being a holdout. Also we had a great CRPG renaissance a few years back so thats also why we have a lot of great turn based RPGs now.
So yeah, its not gamers having low standards that caused that a mobile shift.
Japan makes games for the Japanese. They shifted to handheld when Japanese consoles were difficult to work with. They shifted from consoles to mobile when they saw how much money could be made in the mobile industry because the average Japanese salaryman has disposable income but 0 time to sit in front of a console and play, but can collect waifu on his phone during the subway ride to and from work.
They make games for their own people. If the rest of the world buys them and they make money off of them, that's just a nice bonus. You saw it in the FGC for years. Shit online because every Japanese company didn't need to worry about internet connectivity in their own country - the people they were making the games for.
They aren't like TENCENT or King in that they're out to make max profit, and so target specific areas to gain the maximum amount of cash. The "world" is an afterthought to Japan until they start struggling to pay their own bills with their own domestic audience. You saw that, again, with the FGC when COVID hit and their precious domestic arcade scene dried up instantly. Lo' and behold, here comes rollback netcode because they needed the world.
I can’t echo enough how fucking amazing Divinity 2 is btw. Played through it with my brother and a friend TWICE, like back to back cause it was that damned good. Like 40+ hour play sessions each exploring all we could.
I'm still trying to make it through 1. Not a bad game, just need to be in a certain mood to play it.
But it seems like it'd be freaking amazing to co op with someone.
2 is so much better than 1 its unreal. IDK about Story-wise, but for sure the Gameplay and QOL Upgrades were unreal.
my good man 1 had us fighting frosty the fuckin snowman with a couple bland af party tropes. 2 is incomparably better in story/writing/characterization as well
tbr i got bored with 1 and stalled out, whereas i consider 2 one of the best RPGs ever made
I keep holding off on 2 because I haven't gotten through 1. Should I really just skip it
