Final Fantasy XVI (PC/PS5) - June 22, 2023

[Tyrath]

So the leaked date was real? When they said summer I didn't think they'd mean the 2nd day of summer

[Anoat]

Yoshi P is in LA according to his Twitter, so his appearance at the game awards looks to be in person. I was not expecting that because of how strict Japan’s COVID travel restrictions have been.

Will release June 22, 2023

*Six months later*

Dec 22 2023.

So, for Christmas everyone else gets the optimized version.

[Tyrath]

I doubt that and FF7 pt 2 come out at the same time so one of those will probably be moving a bit

SQUARE ENIX® announced today that its highly anticipated action-RPG, FINAL FANTASY®XVI will launch globally on June 22, 2023. The announcement was made during The Game Awards 2022, where producer Naoki Yoshida appeared on stage to introduce the world premiere of a new game trailer titled “REVENGE,” a nod to one of Clive’s motivations that players will encounter when the game releases on the PlayStation®5 console next year. The company also revealed that gamers can pre-order the FINAL FANTASY XVI Standard and Deluxe Editions now, with the Collector’s Edition pre-orders kicking-off Monday, December 12 on the Square Enix Store.

FINAL FANTASY XVI introduces gamers to an all-new standalone story in the Final Fantasy universe, an epic dark fantasy world that takes place in the realm of Valisthea—a land blessed in the light of the Mothercrystals, and where peace falters as the spread of the Blight threatens to destroy their dominions. The fate of the land is decided by the Eikons, powerful and deadly creatures, and their Dominants, men and women who have been blessed with the ability to call upon and wield them. This is the tale of Clive Rosfield, a warrior granted the title “First Shield of Rosaria” and sworn to protect his younger brother Joshua, the Dominant of the Phoenix, Eikon of Fire. Before long, Clive will be caught up in a great tragedy and swear revenge on the Dark Eikon Ifrit, a mysterious entity that brings calamity in its wake.

With striking characters, rich lore and a captivating storyline, Square Enix is launching a Standard Edition version of FINAL FANTASY XVI, as well as three additional SKUs. The Standard and Deluxe Editions of the game are available for pre-order now and the Collector’s Edition will be available for pre-order on Monday, Dec. 12 at 9:00 p.m. EST / 6:00 pm PST on the Square Enix Store. Everyone that pre-orders FINAL FANTASY XVI will receive the Braveheart (Weapon) DLC and Cait Sith Charm (Gil Boost Accessory) DLC.

Bloody hell I want that statue but also don't want to deal with SE store BS.

[Tyrath]

Anyone notice the voice for Joshua's scream during the transformation scene from the first trailer to the most recent changed a lot? Sounded much higher pitched now. I'm guessing they didn't have Joshua's voice actor lined up for the first trailer.

[Tomiko]

For anyone interested in the physical Deluxe edition, the SE store gives you 6 banners as a bonus, but shipping is $20. Target gives you a $10 gift card for preordering online. I think shipping was even free before I applied my RedCard. With my card, my total was about $103 without counting the eventual gift card. Compared to ~$130 from the SE store.

[Tyrath]

How fast is SE store? I want the game day 1..

[Vaspinne]

How fast is SE store? I want the game day 1..

This is my question. I want a physical deluxe edition and I'm wondering if it's better to order online or to pick it up from a store on release day

Edit: Like 15 and KH3 and etc, etc, I would think any pre-order in-game bonus that is exclusive from one retailer or another will eventually be available from the PSstore or wherever for download

Editedit: Why is it that the physical deluxe edition only gets the 2 pre-order in-game items, but the digital version gets those as well as the exp boost item??? I don't get it +_+

[Anoat]

Side note as someone who’s been playing XIV for a while, Yoshi P’s intro for the XVI trailer at the game awards was the most English I have ever heard him speak. I’ve always heard he understands English quite well but preferred not to speak it because he wasn’t completely comfortable with it. I’m proud of our boy!

[Kaslo]

I ended up preordering from bestbuy for their steelbook. I like the deluxe version's steelbook more, but not $30 more.
