Everything about Versus XIII and the FFXV we finally got was squandered potential. From gameplay to the story to the characters. It makes me really sad because once I dug into all of the story I realized it could have been one of the best ones.

The game is almost on Duke Nukem Forever levels of mismanaged, but without my lazy ass doing any research, I'd have to wager XIV1.0 flopping delayed the original VS. XIII to the point they had to scrap it since it was looking too dated by that point for their impossible standards.

This is spot on. XIV 1.0 fucked over a ton of games that where in development at the time and is likely why we had to wait 7 years after DDD for Kingdom Hearts 3.

Ardyn is arguably one of the best FF antagonists. And I get why they cut all the Luna content since they didn't want to depict abuse and whatnot, but not having the time to replace it with story content that actually made her endearing to the players was a huge miss. Her death was just so meh.

Not to mention that we were supposed to be able to explore Tenerbrae too but that also got cut. And I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of Niflheim stuff got cut too. Again a lot of stuff that would have been fucking rad to explore had it been fleshed out properly.

And all the post time-skip stuff too, easily could have done stuff all over the whole open area map. But again, missed opportunity

The entire Niflheim continent was cut. There’s plenty of FFXV OoB videos exploring the massive area, to include Tenebrae.

Same with the post time-skip World of Ruin map that was ultimately recycled into the Comrades DLC.

ShillUp's vid is pretty great without much in the way of spoilers. Kinda wild to think Japanese devs took JRPG to be discriminatory, but I get it with the explanation YoshiP gave.
