I wish I could just swap R1 and O. I don't fully love any of the control schemes. Just give me the ability to do custom.

Skill ups review has some very good points.
Apparently, there is a way to do it within the accessibility options on the PS5 by changing around the button inputs system wide.

It's something I guess but would probably be more annoying in the long run.
That makes R1 the back button in menus, idk about that lol
Edit: But you know what, I might give it a trial just to see..
Combat is fun but too easy to bother with all that lol. The stakes are always very low challenge wise imo

Okay sanity check.
Could've sworn new pages in the Tomes were previously noted with a blue dot. But the dots are red now. Not sure why/how that happened since the game hasnt had another update
Also lol the tomes totally gave me a spoiler...It listed one of the monsters in the dungeon after Eastpool
Spoiler: show

A single member Action RPG but with little RPG element and zero build variety? That's a gameplay death sentence.
I was so fucking amped for this game too.
The build variety comes from the eikon abilities. I don't know why I keep seeing this nonsense.
It's probably people that have played like 3 hours and don't have a second eikon unlocked. That's the only explanation I can come up with. The build variety is insane once you have 4 eikons, I can only imagine how crazy it's gonna get when they are all unlocked. New game plus is gonna be nutty. The fact that you can just freely swap points around is so nice.
people misrepresenting a low skill floor by saying the game also has a low skill ceiling. youve always been able to mash your way through games like GoW and DMC, but that doesn't mean that there isn't any depth to the combat mechanics for the people who want to chase the challenge.
Unless I'm completely wrong and all the reviewers bringing up that same point are also wrong, Eikons are more akin to "modes" rather than build.
Then there's the fact that there's only a single weapon type in the entire game. That shit is completely unacceptable.
Post Elden Ring/Dark Souls, I am never paying full price for an action "RPG" game with no weapon variety, no build variety, no deep RPG mechanics, and trash replay value (which mainly comes from experimenting with different actual builds). That's gameplay death sentence by boredom.
Don't know wtf Square was thinking. I had no initial problem with FF going the action route. I was even excited it was going to be a DMC style action game. But that weak RPG mechanic and no build variety is unacceptable.
Oh, AND no equipment fashion? GTFO.
It's 2023. Drip is mandatory.
those games had more difficulty settings than normal and easy which gave you a challenge right from the get go that you absolutely could not mash through. looks like the only real challenge in FFXVI outside of some hunts comes in NG+ which kinda sucks for those of us that don't play them
anyways most reviewers did say build variety was very limited, RPG elements were at a low point in the series, and loot was generally uninteresting. will wait until i'm further into the game to decide but so far nothing i've seen dissuades from any of that. doesn't take anything away from the gameplay being crunchy fluid and fun or the game being a visual spectacle or the engaging story but we can be real about the game's flaws. they are def things i've noticed and am a lil worried about going forward. was glad to hear the sidequests get a lot meatier in the 2nd half of the game to allay one early concern.
i'ma be honest with you DMC5 special edition is the only one i played
regardless i gotta stand with Salo. game is p easy and i wish i could go GMGoW mode from the get go.
I badly want to be wrong.
Do different Eikons offer different stat builds, different weapon type to be equipped, alter your level up stats, allow you to equip different armor types, give you access to different magic schools? So you're saying there are other weapon types besides the sword? Different armors give different graphical changes?
So what you're saying is that the overwhelming majority of the people making this exact same observation in their reviews are also all wrong? And they're just lying for fun?
it's all good and i'm not saying you're wrong for wanting that. that said i've still been having fun sussing out combos and preparing myself for the hopefully substantial difficulty boost in NG+. If it turns out to be a nothingburger i'll be disappointed. Could be their entire idea of boosting the skill ceiling is the scoreboard in simulation mode
