This fits too damn well
It's cool but Find the Flame is so based it's really difficult for me to want to see anything other than the original lol
FF difficulty in NG+ doesn't really seem to be adding much challenge, but at the very least its pigeonholing me into some build changes. Used to run Ignition/Pile Drive for clearing trash (often times just Ignition being enough), but way too slow now. Doesn't seem like theres much reason to do anything but Odin Dancing for that as level 5 one-shots the entire screen.
I kind of hate Odin because of what it does to the pacing though. Much preferred zipping around with faster moves, but at least I had to change something for NG+.
As much as I’m liking this game, one of my main gripes is the lack of party customization. That’s always been something I enjoyed in FF.
I guess to tie into that also, it means I also miss the diverse characters that go with building up parties…
Idk, maybe that’s just me.

Nah definitely not just you. I get why they chose to do it the way they did, what with your party member being swapped out and not permanently in the party, but yeah, just another thing they chose to do that gave the game a more hollow, lack of depth feel
I can't think of another Action game that gives you control of your party members, in fairness.
I think they would have prefered something similar to FF7R with party customization, I myself was fine with the game as it was.
The only reason I could see to make gear for party members is in the case we could control them, and frankly I don’t see any of them having unique enough gameplay that we didn’t already get from the different Eikon’s, with the one exception maybe being Torgal.
it didn't give you control but God of War gave you a lot of customization over Atreus / Freya builds while letting you Torgal command them. also had some actual elemental stuff + a much more engaging crafting system.
XVI went straight action game which is fine if you know what you're getting into, but for a storied RPG franchise it is a shame it has even less depth than something like God of War Ragnarök.
Could have gone the KH route too. Can't control Donald or Goofy (or any of the Disney party members), but could at least change their equipment, change how they prioritized their abilities and control how their AP was spent as far as which abilities and traits and etc they had unlocked
And yeah the "crafting" system in XVI was hot garbage lol
Again, to reiterate, I actually enjoyed playing XVI and liked it quite a bit. But that's not to say it wasn't without its faults lol
This is also SE's first crack at an Action Final Fantasy title. You had significantly less influence over Atreus in the first God of War.
This is also the first FF game I can recall that has as much foul language or carnage? in it lol. Not complaining, just saying.
But then again, I have early onset Alzheimer’s lol.

it def earned that M rating. Yoshi said he made the dev team buy every season of Game of Thrones and watch it lawlz, the influence shows. do miss Barret's !@#$ laden tirades when they had to toe the T line.
aye i think they very intentionally mimicked the style, but in God of War you have a little more control over your companion, determine development through personalized skill trees, and they have inventory slots for both weapons and armor. it ain't in depth Pathfinder / Baldur's Gate stuff but it's deeper than XVI's nothing systems for companions.
like Vaspinne said XVI is a good game that i enjoyed, but it's not even that it's shallow for an RPG it's kinda shallow compared to a contemporary action game. if they keep this style for XVII or a direct sequel hope it gets fleshed out heavy. bones are there.
i was looking forward to hunts, especially after the intro hunt with the ahriman but goddamn was i disappointed by the rest of them. was hoping for at least 1 or 2 unique mob types
Poor forgotten stepchild Stranger of Paradise. I know SE didn't develop it, and that game's story and optimization were bargain bin tier, but it had some tinges of awesomeness that coulda popped up here and been great additions. Maybe each Eikon could have unlocked a different job or two that altered your base attacks/magic/charged abilities. Wouldn't have been the most in-depth inclusion of jobs, but it woulda been something to spice things up.
