You get the one unlock for every weapon type from doing the story, I think it was at village 2 or 3.
The next one comes from having forged or upgraded a weapon type 8 times.
And the last one is quest unlocks (edit : spread out between HR4-6)

Gotcha. Since I've only used LBG I was wondering if it was tied to how many hunts I've done with a weapon.
Not sure how true this is for other weapons since I only play bow, but only one of the unlockable skills for me was a wire bug skill, others replaced a dodge and my power shot.
I believe there's only the one alternate Silkbind for all the weapons, the other switch skills either change a normal move or some mechanic of the weapon.
LBG is dodge and reload for switch skills, GS is the tackle and alternative to TCS, HH is song mechanics and a different X+A (haven't really fucked with other weapons yet)
I unlocked 2 Silkbinds for LBG but one is basically a minor alteration to an existing one.
X Skill - Same as the default but the travel distance is reduced in exchange for greater recovery.
A Skill - Launch a tether and then slide to the side. Accuracy is crap but gives me a temporary attack boost.
I'm genuinely suprised how little of a hissy fit I'm seeing from the games press about how the main story isn't finished. Last time Capcom put out a game in early access for sixty dollars the games press crucified them.

It's cause no one gives a shit about the story in mainline MH games and I'd also strongly assume most reviewers didn't actually finish the available content since that takes awhile
Main story didn't feel incomplete to me in hub quests. Just teasing more things to come after you finish it. And yeah, it's basically just there to say "here's a new monster to fight".
Most reviewers received an early copy so don't see a problem with them having time to complete it though
Probably because it doesn't feel like an incomplete game. You have 30+ monsters to fight with new ones come in only a month after release.
Mobs hits much harder then I expected
I almost get 2-3 shot by HR3* diablo with food on lol
Devil May Cry 5 is a single player game, no one really gives a crap about pay to win mechanics in them.
Capcom gets a ton of crap for how they've bungled the Street Fighter franchise, or Dead Space, or DMC
I think that's a stupid ass take so to counter it I am going to point out that DMC5 technically has multiplayer co-op.
^ He's got the right idea. From what I remember, nothing in DMC5 made it a necessity to pay for those upgrades. It's an option for people who are lazy or don't want to spend time upgrading. It's asinine to complain about that in a single player game.
Remember that time no one complained about FFXV being an incomplete mess?
Nope. Never played FFXV. Only complaint I heard was there was a shitload of DLC
