The n-word with an A was meant to be used to take off some of the weight of the word and the nuance involved in that is why I'd be cool with someone like Salodin or Xno saying it.
They grew up in the same environment as I did and thus understands that nuance. However other black people may not agree with that thus I would expect them to not use it around those types of people and I will bet money that they don't.

I mean I'm pretty sure we all grew up in the 90s when derogatory word for homosexuals and gay was a go to insult for every 12 year boy.

While I am not of the community, I am the teacher sponsor for the lgbtq club, and I think you are going to be incorrect within ten years or so. Current teens in the community want everyone saying it and weren't even alive when the stigma existed.

I tried explaining to them why I don't feel comfortable using the word, but they constantly try to convince me otherwise because they want everyone saying it.


Sample size is small, but it does logically make sense they want everyone to use it considering they never heard it in their life as a bad word.

When I pass by two gays holding hands on the street, I jokingly want to yell at em "BOTTOMS" as if it's an insult somehow. and since I know you'll get your jock in a tizzy, I know it's already a bit of an insult to associate bottoming with being bad or less than, you don't gotta tell a bottom that. Mine was about q***, which I don't feel comfortable using at all because of how it was used 20 years ago. No one in their generation uses it as an insult it seems. "Gay" is still the default slur.

I do hear d*** being used in the teen lgbtq+ community (rarely, but not as an insult). Again, not something straight people should use. But I have yet to hear anyone use it as an insult at their age. Granted CA is a lot more progressive than other states. But it does give hope for the future.
