Based on the story and how it went down, it doesn't seem as egregious as it sounds. On the other hand, what was the point of making a big deal out of it to begin with? They were doing PT playing music that was offending only people that dislike rap music.

Hell, in Canada here a professor got suspended recently for using the word in the context of discussing its historical meaning (in other words, not aimed at anyone), and it's been causing an uproar between the academics and the students. Older folks/profs want to be also to discuss/debate shit, and the students just want a zero-tolerance policy/censorship on the matter.

Most rap song lyrics use the version ending with a and not er. Its easier to rhyme words that end with a than er. Just listen to any Metallica song from the Black album.
