I know this isn't a popular opinion but I think we a. Should strengthen unemployment to help those who are probably too old or been doing the same thing too long to retrain in a new field. (...)

What most here fail to realize is that poverty comes with a humongous physiological/mental baggage, and as a result puts them at a disadvantage. Case in point, our college offered all the trades you could think of: welding, woodworking, electrical, office admin, etc. Tuition was super affordable, and in most cases it was waived. Students (90% minorities - mostly Latinos and Blacks) also received free school supplies, tutoring, etc. The overwhelming majority (I'd say 80%) dropped out. It was really fucking hard for them to overcome that disadvantage (substance abuse, depression, shitty environment, so on). I also had a bunch of transfer Dreamers who dropped out. Of course, there are exceptions but most are failures. Asking Jose to learn assembly ain't going to fly. Not everything's grim tho, our after school program was another story... before it was axed. I guess there's no happy ending.

Anyway, iirc the US government pushed a program for low iq people back in the day, I think it was the Macnamara project. It was an absolute disaster.

One party, which controls the executive branch and half of congress, has unified behind the theory that the election results should not be respected and are throwing out some pretty serious rhetoric to that effect despite the complete lack of evidence.

I mean, if they were smart enough to blame a foreign nation, we would have to consider it. They aren't even putting forwards a viable straw man to burn right now, though
