Frequently this is fairly true, but in this election I think the stark contrast was sharp enough to motivate the high numbers we're seeing. An old standard politician rich white guy who's kind of cringey sometimes, versus an absolutely unpredictable megalomaniac who praises dictators and disdains protestors. That's not exactly Clinton vs. Dole.

Some kind of incentive would work, unfortunately it wouldn't work really. You'd just get people coming in and picking whoever is the first option.

Something like $50 home heating credit, or a tax cut, free gas, something that makes everyone go yeah I want that. But not be good enough that people just pick option A to get said thing.

The results in Ohio are intensely disconcerting. That kind of point differential says that Ohio is red for the next 4-5 election cycles. Florida is troubling but not so much, a more exciting Democrat + less polarizing Republican could keep it purple and put it in play any given election. But that being said, anyone looking to win without Ohio or Florida would need some approximation of Biden's map, which only Kennedy has ever done before.

If Democrats are going to stay in the game after what looks like to be a generational loss of Ohio with Florida a continued uncertainty, they need to keep Arizona and Georgia blue and find a way to flip North Carolina and put Texas into play. If the Blue Wall were more reliable it would be less of a concern but Wisconsin was way too close and Pennsylvania was still within 1 point. Electoral math just favors Republicans too much.

Stacey Abrams is running for governor again in 2022 but in the meantime the DNC would be smart to have her as the chief organizer of voting efforts in North Carolina and Florida as well as Georgia. And Biden and Harris are going to have to find some way to keep Native American and Latino voters fired up as well.

Assuming DC and PR statehood, I wouldn't put it past deeply red states to decide to split just to recoup the seat gap the next time there's any inkling of GOP majority.

But yeah, fuck Manchin.

Texas and Florida are the only 2 that could conceivably do this, you will NEVER see Texas voluntarily break itself apart.
And if it succeeded, you'd see California do it and cancel that effect out.
Maybe Alaska, could try.
