This is a rare instance in which I think going to court and getting a huge judgment is worth it, even if the trial eats into the monetary gain compared to settling, because of the value of the judgment itself.

Maybe zealot or Kaslo will disagree with me on this, I don't deal with fraud damages.

And really, I take a pro-settlement stance usually. But it would also depend on the terms of the settlement. For a situation like this, Dominion would not want a hush clause. They will want to disclose that FN/NM paid them a ton of money to go away.

If I'm Dominion in this hypothetical I would also take every opportunity to point out that truth is an absolute defense to a defamation charge and they chose to pay up rather than go to court.

Also - Dominion would be fuuuuuucking stupid to settle anytime in the near future. At least not until after the election is mercifully and finally over, until then anything that doesn't send a clear message to Trump world that defamation can have serious consequences will encourage a cottage industry of rumor and grift. They're cowards and if they think there is a serious enough of a risk they will find other targets.

I mean, they're suing Giuliani and Pat Cipollone, one of those 2 isn't exactly ringing the Trump bell (right now) AND is being eyed for firing with...24 days until the end of the Trump administrations first term.

So they're targeting the mad hatter running the tea party and one of the poor saps attending it. I have no idea of who Pat Cipollone is and have no desire to do a deep dive to find out the likely outcome, but it looks like they're targeting Rudy and the Whitehouse together. If I'm not mistaken, that means when Joe comes on board his legal team gets involved since it's the Whitehouse supplying the records.

Settling before inauguration won't happen without a lot of money. More than I think you could squeeze out of Rudy Giuliani.
