If this Private server were to exist, the population would be hella small. I guess if cock-blocking tens of people instead of hundreds would still give you that rush, it works out.

I played Aion Classic for a year. I was the only single person who did 50 cap world bosses after the cap was raised to 55. Sometimes I waited 20+ hours until enough friends would help me kill them after they spawned.

I did them because the level 50 weapons we still situationally the best weapons even though some 55 cap weapons were better. No one was allowed to have them besides someone who camped with me.

I quit once 60 cap made them absolutely 100% obsolete. (There were no world spawns after 50 because, like FFXI, bitches complained and wanted instance content only)

The good times of course was 50 cap. The mob that dropped the best spear (i.e. this game's Ridill) spawned 4x a day so 80+ people competed for it each window. I was the only one who did all four spawns every day even though I couldn't use the spear.

I mean sure it was easier in college, but I adjusted to facilitate camping and would again for the right game. Take a WFH position, even if it's less than full time, rearranged sleep schedule around windows, etc.

I went back to work on location after I quit Aion to do something to eat up the hours.

I worked graveyard shift for most of my ffxi years. I got to play with mostly JP and EU players, so if I played again, I'd have to play with NA trash. So fuck that.

I recall a thread years back where somebody asked how can they put their experience as an HNM linkshell leader down on a resume. I really wonder how that worked out.

I mean depending on the position I can see it being relevant. Does the employer want to know your ability to track down people to take over shifts because you're a scheduling manager? Does your employer want to be able to reach you and make you work beyond work hours at any point of the day even the ass crack of dawn or the middle of the night?

With how stupid easy it is to get into college now because they aren't using standardized testing anymore leading to a bunch of dumb kids getting in through adversity scores, I'd rather hire on experience that I know is a reliable filter and I personally believe camping world spawns is one of those things

I was going to say look at Jeff Kaplan. Probably took all that experience leading one of the bleeding edge EQ guilds and turned it into being the lead director for Overwatch after career stepping stones in design/management in WoW.

I got a very high grade on a graduate level supply chain research paper based on the fluctuations and inflation/deflation of the FFXI economy back in the early 2010's. I focused a lot on hyperinflation of stuff like SH/Hauby and how specific factors dominated specific sectors of the economy and what it mirrors IRL. And how it doesn't.

I feel like RMT and how it is similar vs different to traditional currency exchange would be a fascinating topic

Having worked in management the skills are pretty transferrable.

In an interview situation, if someone brought that up in conjunction with other experience as an answer to the appropriate question (e.g. "tell us about a unique experience outside of work that qualifies you for this role") they'd rise to the top for me and a few other folks I've worked with.

I don't game as much as I'd like to, and while RL is a factor, it's more like there aren't enough games coming out these days that I'd actually like. The persistent creep of monetization and "you don't actually own what you paid for so it can all vanish overnight" sucks a lot out of things, too.

I agree the high level endgame experience actually takes skill and counts for something in regards to real life. Although I suppose it would heavily depend on how it's described and spoken about when put down on a resume and such for the experience to not be dismissed as video game pettiness.

I have definitely appreciated FFXI more when looking back and seeing all kinds of lessons it could teach.
