if mahomes went to chicago and immediately played week 1 in 2017, instead of sitting all of 2017 behind alex smith and andy reid to fix the shit he was bad at in college (his football knowledge), is he still going to the hall of fame? i have no idea

watson immediately started in 2017, has played for bad coaches his entire career, and has had #1 receiver taken away from him.... and he's still really damn good regardless. waston has shown that he'd be good on any team, and in any situation, because his situation is already shit lol. we honestly don't know that for mahomes. if mahomes went to the jets, is he still good? i have no fucking idea. i do for watson. watson already plays for the jets lol

the nfl draft is no different than your fantasy draft. you weigh out the floor vs the ceiling you can get out of the player. clearly the ceiling for mahomes was higher, and it was considered that way in the pre-draft evalutation as well, but watson had the highest floor of all the qbs in that draft... which is a top 10 qb, at least. that's an amazing floor

and don't argue what i'm not saying. mahomes is pretty much already in the hall of fame

Funny enough, McAdoodoo and Reese had plans on taking Mahomes first for the Giants until the chiefs traded up. Dude would’ve been ruined here.

I was so happy when Manish's credentials were pulled but I still see his coverage of the team ALL THE FUCKING TIME. It's insane.

I don't think Mahomes would be where he is if the Jags had drafted him tbh. Sometimes skill alone isn't enough lol

I gotta agree with this from a CIN fans perspective. Wasn't all that long ago they had the Carson fiasco. I'd be in borderline panic mode too.

Mahomes is both an absolutely incredible player AND the product of the system/coach.

Yeah the coaching is where I think the Jags would have failed him hard. It's why I'm nervous about (likely) Fields unless we finally clean house.

Just realized Mahones is 27 pass attempts away from 1500, the amount needed to chart for career passing rate statistics.

He'll be 7 points ahead of Rodgers in passer rating this time next week (and 7.4 ahead of Watson who just charted and is right now #2 all time, ahead of RussWils.

    Jesus fucking Christ

Rodgers is closer to the #27 player in Adjusted Net Yards Per Attempt than he is to Mahomes.

Pretty much this. On draft day i'd still take Watson over Mahomes for various reasons everyone else already said. Mahomes just lucked outright into the perfect situation. He got to sit behind Alex Smith for a year who took his lumps for years before turning into a solid QB, had playmakers already established, and had a coaching staff that worked with him instead of throwing him to the fire. Playing against the Chief's now is like that friend that always picks the Raiders in Tecmo Bowl because of how broken Bo Jackson was. He's a video game athlete brought to life and he's making everyone look silly in the process.

no one's arguing Mahomes didn't walk into the perfect situation. people is arguing it was foolish to have him go 10. tbh i fuckin hate 'it made sense at the time' arguments (as a Suns fan i've had to hear too much of it over the years). drafting is about evaluating the future and if you evaluate it wrong then you failed to draft properly. all there is to it.

i love Watson btw. putting together a great season re individual performance despite the dogshit team and losing Hopkins and having zero run game support, but as he was drafted after Mahomes he has no relevance to the can you believe 9 teams passed on Mahomes question. but yes it was very foolish so many teams passed on him too.

and it's easy to forget but Andy Reid was not held in anything like the regard he is today pre-Mahomes. was condemned as a playoff coacher who could never break through with Philly, gimmicky offense only a doglover could love that could win the NFC East but not an NFC championship, only produced a caretaker QB in KC that likewise couldn't break through (including that spectacular 28-point choke against Andrew Luck) etc etc. hop in a time machine five or ten years ago and guarantee not a one of yas was talking about Reid's brilliance as a head coach.

Mahomes made Reid as much or more than Reid made him.

yes i'm sure if we grab your posts about Reid from four years ago they were all about what an excellent developer of quarterback talent he was

the only thing people had against andy was he didn't know how to manage a clock and threw the dumbest red flags. nobody has ever had a problem with his offensives with any of the quarterbacks he's had. philly or kc

honestly, think about all the pro bowl qbs he's coached... im pretty sure he's 4 for 4

Reid was absolutely viewed as a good QB coach since way back with McNabb, he just had the history of choking in the postseason and his horrendous clock/timeout management.

Just now Mahomes is good enough to overcome his deficiencies so Reid's perception has also been elevated
