but the point is Steph was below average, for his position, in his early years of the league. shot around 52-53% until he started using the gravity his shooting threat generated to get clean paths to the basket. you used him as an example of how Giannis doesn't need to evolve, just keep doing what he was doing. but Steph evolved what was a weak aspect of his game, improved it by well over 10%, and made him all the more difficult to guard.

i'm not even trying to be funny, but do you understand that? one part of a game can open up other parts, and that is what happened for Steph. he didn't just do more of what he had been doing.

Do you think Giannis is going to develop into a good enough jumpshooter to make it worth it to take more shots from 15+ feet from the basket?

and for the record Steph led the league in FG% within 5-feet of the basket among all guards in 2015-2016, including SGs.

For example, Tim Duncan is a top-10 all time guy. Same position and height as Giannis. Never developed a 3 point shot, and nobody ever expected him too.

I pulled a random Duncan season (2004) and looked at his shooting by distance. Quite good inside 5 feet, although 14% behind what Giannis did this year.

Garbage 38% from 5-9 feet. Gets a little better from further 44/40/46, but man.

Is that what we want from Giannis? To shoot more from further from the basket like one of the greatest power forwards of all time shot?

If you look at Giannis, and his absolute game-breaking historic dominance at putting the ball in the hoop from close, and think "we should get him to do other stuff" instead of "more of that for as long as it works" you are being too cute by half.

Obviously if Giannis could shoot 38% from 3 he'd be better than he is today (even though that shot wouldn't be nearly as efficient as any shot from within 5 feet)

But I don't think that is in the cards. Do you?

These critiques made sense last year, two years ago, when team were able to defend his strength in the playoffs

But then he and his team adapted, figuring out other ways to get him into his wheelhouse other than just head-down bull rushes. All the jumpshooting fury was a plausible adaptation!

    But was that the key?

At least Gred, to his credit, wants Giannis to develop more of a traditional post game - that's another route to the same goal, more opportunities around the basket.

Pretty sure the key to success for the Bucks (and probably the entire rest of the NBA) was the Nets falling apart due to injury

Along with Simmons forgetting how to take any kind of shot for 4 games.

The team composition is dumb AF for the reason you mentioned (and Kevin Love)

A team of iso scorers, how can it possibly go wrong!?

Trae was one of the many "finalists" : https://www.usab.com/news-events/new...finalists.aspx

LaMelo wouldve been fucking epic playing with these dudes. Really mind boggling how poorly this roster was constructed. The best passers are the bigs

Really the bigs are pretty small/shit(KLove) too, between Bam, Draymond, and Love

Bill Simmons had a good take on his podcast about it too - why not consider bringing in top prospects like Cade Cunningham or Evan Mobley?

Especially with our potential bigs being pretty mediocre/injured
