I like that move way less for Portland because it puts way more burden on Dame to produce every night. CJ can disappear at times but he also can take over a game when Dame gets cold

The theory there is that it gives at least someone on the roster who can play a lick of defense and share the playmaking burden with Dame so he doesn't have to score 40+ a night to keep the Blazers afloat.
yeah that i dig a bit more. Norman Powell can replace most of CJ's scoring production, and guys like RoCo/Nurkic are good finishers but need to be setup.
anywhere he goes he's going to junk up the spacing tho. Draymond only got away with it cuz he played with 2 or 3 of the best shooters in league history and wasn't shy about attacking the basket.
Yeah idk why Portland would give up 24 ppg for Ben Simmons lol
Even at 30 mil/year CJ still has way more value than that

prob cause 30/m a year for cj mccollum is nuts anyway lol
sounds like a sensible move for both teams. portland's ceiling will always be middling because their backcourt is just too tiny and awful on defense. and a guy like lillard can just ramp it up and help make up for the loss in mccollum's production.
As AG mentioned you have Norman Powell now to take up that scoring burden
The other reason is the Blazers as currently constructed have a very defined ceiling and Simmons has untapped potential if he can ever get his head right offensively. A change of scenery couldn't hurt
But I don't think it's as much of a no-brainer on the Blazers side after these playoffs from Ben. 76ers might have to include Maxey or Thybulle

Simmons would be good on any of the LA teams?
I don't think there is any financial way for the Lakers to add Simmons contract as long as AD and LeBron remain on the roster.
He also doesn't make any sense for either roster. The last thing the Lakers need is more defense at the expense of scoring, and Pat Bev on a budget contract is far more useful in the defense first point guard role then Simmons and his massive contract.
Pat Bev is stinking overpaid garbage 90% of the time and Simmons would solve some woes with that roster since they could desperately use a pass-first playmaker. but Clipps payroll is already expensive as hell the salaries would never match without giving up several key pieces. as you allude to the biggest issue with Simmons right now isn't that he's a bad or negative player (whatever the current overreaction) it's that he's being paid 30-40 million a year until 2025.
Oh I've made my opinions about Beverly known here plenty, but when you factor in contracts I'd sadly prefer him on the roster over Simmons for the vast majority of roster makeups.
i guess kinda interesting from the perspective of fit, but i don't think he's at all a good fit with the lakers. for the clippers, it's certainly better, and lue's coaching staff has done a remarkable job defining roles for PG/kawhi when last year they were just kinda doing their own thing. so sure, i imagine they could make simmons work out.
but that said, it's the money, matching salaries, and value and i'm not sure who 76ers would even want back that makes sense. he's a weird buy low candidate who has tons of potential still, but is overpriced. you could do something like morris/beverley, which i think helps them, but do they even wanna do that? and as ag said, clips are already in salary cap hell (with an eventual need to extend reggie jackson AND terrance mann) so i'm not sure how simmons is going to affect all that.
the whole thing is weird. no idea who can get the right value for a guy like simmons.
when he's not in foul trouble, or injured (which is most of the time) and his head's not up his ass, he's pretty darn useful. iirc the clip's best lineup all season was zubac/batum/kawhi/pg/beverley. and i mean, that was about as terrifying defensively i've ever seen that team.
Dame is the type of dude to get in BS's face if he messin up and will want to help make him better. The things BS needs improvements on, if he can actually improve in those areas while in Portland, he'll have a higher ceiling than CJ M and is a better defender.
They should totally do that trade.
Simmons on the Spurs would work for him. Pop and Chip could fix his head and shooting.
Zach Lowe was suggesting DeRozan via sign and trade and additional pieces for Simmons, I like it

yeah i was kinda thinking something with ddr might work for both sides
