in defense of the low Hawks rating i don't think many saw just how much Capela-Gallo-Bogi were going to shake up this team. hard to predict with so many moving parts but clearly the offseason moves were A+'s all around and this is a radically different team than any we saw before even as their system and best player stayed in place.

people shoulda seen the Suns coming though. had one of the best 5-man lineups in the NBA last year, then upgraded Rubio into Paul + got some bench help. bubble was just foreshadowing what we'd be when healthy.

The coaching change was also absolutely massive, to a degree I'm not sure Ive seen.

Hawks were straight up not a good team before McMillan took over, and now here we are.

if anything this postseason should end the silly narrative CP3 descended from Olympus and caused the Suns turnaround all by himself. he was injured and averaged 9 points on splits of 38%-22%-50% against the Lakers. was brilliant against Denver but that was a non-competitive 4-game sweep with an average margin of victory of +16. then out against LA and still 2-0.

he is absolutely a better player than Rubio, and he has been terrific for us. but adding Crowder, Ayton not being suspended, Mikal making the jump, settling on the right 5-man lineup, Book not being injured, Cam Payne being an excellent backup point. these things mattered more than the Paul-Rubio upgrade.

i think he's a lot better than rubio. and i'm a guy coveted rubio for the clips, before they unfortunately couldn't get him onto the team. cp3 is one of the ultimate leaders in sports, and adding him to a young team is the dream.

i think anyone who thinks the suns turnaround was the sole result of cp3 doesn't understand really understand basketball. they have the depth, talent, and coaching to do it all.

What's funny is Carlisle is the one who recommended the Mavs to hire Kidd as the HC cause he was part of the 2011 team and he sees a lot of similarities between Kidd and Luka. That led a lot of people on Reddit to joke around that Carlisle is trying to sabotage the Mavs.
