Watched a bit of the trial and the defense basically boils down to "He can say what he wants cause of the 1st amendment and he's a private citizen and he didn't specifically say go storm the capitol and try to kill people."

That's enough for me to know that's a good enough excuse for repubs not to convict.

I love the cloak talk fellas. I have a cloak at school (made it in HS, we use it for a lot of the plays) and I will often wear it when it's cold in my room and yell at the kids I'm bringing it back.

I am a very silly teacher.

Was talking to one of my tutors who I had in 9th grade. She transferred in during the spring semester and she told me the first day she came into the class I threw pancakes at her.

I believe it.

Note: School breakfast sometimes has pancakes in a plastic wrapper. I used to try to get kids to eat them all up because by law anything that is not taken is trashed.

Our school lunch system in America is fucked up.

McConnell won't vote to convict on jurisdictional grounds because he believes Trump's defense team convinced him the Senate can't convict a President who isn't in office and so the President can just do whatever they want a week or two before they leave.

For those of you not following Trump's second impeachment trial, here's where we're at right now. The trial could have concluded with a vote today but now appears to be continuing ahead with witnesses being called. The desire for witnesses arose because of new information revealed yesterday regarding Trump's reaction to Pence being in danger on the 6th. Here's what we know so far:

As the elector votes began to be counted in the Senate Trump and Republican Tubbervile were on the phone, he was saying that he needs them to stall as long as possible to draw out the process. This was later confirmed by a voicemail message Rudy Giuliani also mistakenly left on the wrong Senators voicemail.

On that phone call Tubbervile told Trump he had to leave because the mob just caused VP Pence to be evacuated from the Senate. It's also guaranteed that a president would be notified *immediately* if the VP was in danger, and the VP was fleeing for his life.

A few minutes later Trump AFTER learning that Pence was in danger Trump posts a Tweet saying Pence lacks courage to overturn the election as an attack on his character.

On a social media video we see the mob on the Capitol steps a moment later reading Trump's Tweet criticizing Pence as the mob is overrunning the building, he reads the entire Tweet in a bullhorn to the crowd surely encouraging them further to find and violently attack Pence.

In a short span of time several Republicans go on TV and social media pleading with Trump to call off the attack. Republican House minority leader Kevin McCarthy calls Trump as the attack is underway and tells him to do something about it.

Newly revealed last night we find out by Republican House rep Herrera Beutler that in this phone call Trump reportedly says "Well, Kevin, I guess these people are more upset about the election than you are" revealing that he was pleased and endorsed the violent actions of the mob. Last night rep Herrera Beutler also released a statement saying this account of the phone call was accurate and true.

Due to this new information the Senate prosecution now wants to call Beutler as a witness to give them more information.

Additionally information that supports Trump was supportive and not remorseful of the mob:

He fired his former acting secretary of defense likely for not being sycophantic enough to his desires. The new secretary of defense, Chris Miller, sent a letter to the secretary of the Army guarding the Capitol saying they cannot use body armor, helmets, weapons, and to be as hands off as possible.

Trump did not respond to the deadly mob until HOURS into the violence. In the next Tweet after criticizing Pence he merely says "these are the things that happen" appearing to show no regrets about what's happening. Eventually Trump finally released a video saying the mob should go home and that he "loves" them. This was only after it was clear that Congress was safely evacuated and the attempted coup had failed.

Now the Senate will call witnesses and focus on the moments when Trump learned about the deadly threats to Pence. This should further reveal Trump's attitude toward the insurrection whether he was pleased and supportive or not.
