I had this long-ass post but I deleted it.

I just find it ironic and just depressing that we praise this country for being diverse, and it is indeed diverse, but the diversity and lack of effective education for the majority allows us to all have opinions that are partly right but only in the context of our personal lives.

So we're basically all right but at the same time we're all upset because people have different experiences than us and too stubborn to learn from each other because the idea of individualism runs rampant when anyone who reached any significant success did it with the help of other people.

The youth out here seems to get it. The ones that don't aren't the ones getting their asses beat by police.

Surely you would rather be judged as an individual based on your own personal character than by an arbitrary group you belong to involuntarily, like the color of your skin or the state you were born in. Certainly as a minority in Florida I can't imagine you would disagree.

No one said anything at all about snubbing other groups of people or not working with other people. In fact I specifically made that caveat? It's also not reality that you don't have any white men working with you collectively to improve your life.

I think tribal behavior is better for smaller, local communities because you get a lot more out of your immediate environment working with others. This is why I hate the idea of religion but can also see how it brings communities together. I think being a vet changed my thinking on this because even when I worked with dudes I didn't like, when it came down to it, we got shit done when it needed to be done.

I'm not saying people shouldn't work together or recognize that it takes a diverse group of people to form a healthy society. I just think a more individualistic mindset, in both the way we behave and treat others as well as the way we see other people would make a healthier society vs voluntarily dividing ourselves into groups of people and fighting amongst each other constantly about who has it worse off and why it's the other groups fault. These groups overlap way more than people want to admit and it's either naive or ignorant to even begin to judge someone based on these things.

I'm not saying to be completely color blind or ignore all privileges one group may have over another either before I get jumped for that. It just seems that for most of my early life, we were preaching to view and treat each other as individuals, that's what I was working towards anyways, and now we have moved to some kind of justified self segregation where it's not uncommon at all for people to unironically blame a whole race of people for all their problems. We have recognized that yes white people have privilege, males have privilege, and because of that we've warped it into "Well everyone in those privileged groups must be abusing it." Also people now self identify as these groups first and foremost before their individual selves it seems, which doesn't seem wise to me but what do I know really in the end.

The racists of yesteryear had children they raised to be racist just like them, and that has been passed on from generation to generation. That racism is there still, holding people down and influencing racist decisions, and pretending rugged individualism is all we need isn't enough.

Yeah when you blame the normal downtrodden people and not the people in power that abuse that power to keep it or the system that allows them to do so. They vote in terrible ways by the allure of a simple solution. That is on them, no one else. And as I said, this isn't on them as white people. This is universal. The problem with every governmental system is that it relies on people. People of every race, country, age, geographic region, etc. are generally dumb and can easily be convinced to throw other people to the wolves for their own benefit.

For democracy, it relies on people to select leaders. Democracy has worked better than most systems because the majority voting in their interest means that you *tend* not to get a leader who works against the majority's interest since they need people for re-election (unlike a monarch), but we're clearly reaching a point where that correlation is becoming strained.

I've never hidden the fact I am an elitist. I've posted tons of anti-democracy scholarship, or rather, scholarship that indicates the current decline of democracy is inevitable.
