If people keep voting for Dianne fucking Feinstein then the problem is the electorate. They get an option every 6 years to ditch her and have sent her back four times now. We need to change the way that our (or Californian in this case) politics work so name ID and donor lists isn't 100% of the game.

I would prefer term limits for unelected officials, but our elected officials have terms.

I support sub30 year limits for congress.

Text this bill that her name is on? Cuz its not:
    https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-...text?r=170&s=1

Super spoilered cuz long, only 400 words.

Maybe she'll get added in a newer version?

Anyway, for those who wont look because I NSFW'd it - it's 3 terms in the House and 2 terms in the senate served. Or 6 and 12 years respectively, if your term 1 starts with being elected. Appointee's get less, and a hit against serving in the future depending on how long in the term is left. I appreciate the sentiment here, but it's dumb. And its fucked. 12 years house, 24 senate and make it apply to existing terms. THEN we're cooking with "goodbye 30+ senators in one election guaranteed" fire.

I would go so far as to say a 20 year House Limit.

Age limit is better than term limits, but even more unrealistic

we should figure out how to put another 20-30 years of life on mcconnell and pelosi so they can keep running the show, i mean studies have shown they are doing a bang up job, some young rookie congressmen might screw up all their hard work

I think you have to do two things if you want to introduce limits on terms (and something does need to be put into place).

    1. Limit official campaigning and fundraising activities to 6 months before election. You should be focused on serving your constituents beforehand, not on the next campaign cycle. This eternal campaign cycle has become a huge part of the problem.
    2. Not anyone needs to be in congress for 20 years or the senate for 30+. Executive is limited to 2 terms, no reason Congress shouldn't be limited to 4. 4 House, 2 House 2 Senate, 1 House 3 Senate, however you want to do it. If you're in your House seat for 3 terms, you will have a Senate shot and if you're not ready then you're not likely fit for the spot.

That also ensures a House seat will be open at least once every decade before redistricting happens so it would become that much harder to gerrymander around any potential incumbent.

My stance remains 50 years old unless it's a consecutive re-election bid, and even then, I also want term limits. Just too much generational gap going on with the concerns of younger generations being cast aside because the older have lived 50+ years without specific problems even existing or they'll be dead by the time they really peak.

The election process is a whole 'nother can of worms, with things like gerrymandering being an obvious issue to eliminate. Voter suppression in various forms is also huge, with eligibility really being something automatic and permanent once you're 18. Donations should also solely be possible on an individual basis, eliminating PACs and/or corporate workarounds. Financial record disclosures mandatory once running for a certain level of office. Ranked choice voting should probably be the standard for determining candidates. Television ads should be prohibited to only ads specifically sponsored by the candidate. Additionally, ads would need to remain fact-based and not speculative or visual/audio manipulations that twist narrative. Violation would result in disqualification of the candidate and serious fines against any broadcasting company that willingly violated.

The supposed knowledge of the elders can still be utilized through advisory and other hired/approved positions, but in the end, they still won't have the final say.

If you are a Republican, you damn sure want McConnell to rule the Senate in perpetuity.
