McConnell the guy who just lost control of the Senate by not backing $2k checks like Trump wanted despite a massive entrenched partisan lean in his favor?

If I was a Republican I'd want to stay in the majority.

I kind of think that if you add upper age limits, you need to change it so a 19 year old can be a senator.

Neither of those are honestly a good idea in the long run.

It is shitty for some states that are late in the primaries because the person they want drops out beforehand.

    1. I said the primaries not the general.

    2. You don't have to vote in the primary

    3. Lots of younger people in the primaries ballots when people voted

    1. Primaries or not, depending on your state, the person you want might not be in the race anymore, leaving you with little choices.

    2. Are you suggesting not voting at all is better than voting for someone that you think is too old but at least aligns with your ideals?

    3. Just because someone is younger doesn't mean they align with your ideals, who was the younger Bernie/Warren person?

This argument is just going to boil down to the same one it has the last few times.

Either you think a write in vote is a disservice to your responsibility or you don't.

Do I dislike the current system? Certainly. Do I want to remove myself from it by not voting at all and just giving a free pass to worst case scenarios? Not really. It seems like we're dealing with a belief some have that people in their 20s or 30s can't be capable leaders. Part of this is a self-fulfilling prophecy when people 50+ are taking those spots or are so entrenched within an established system that challenging them is impossible. Meanwhile, when younger candidates do arise like AOC, it's not uncommon to see the ageism swing in reverse, combined with other attempts at declaring non-viability despite voters choosing. Under current circumstances, her presence feels more like a bug than a feature, especially when you start factoring student debt as an institutional roadblock to prevent younger people from running until they eradicate their own from the prospect of being a liability. At which point, you identify who has the empathy switch or not when it comes to the debt issue in particular. And odds are if they don't want to burden people with student debt, they don't want people to be bogged down by medical, rent, or other basic needs. My overall point is that we need to prop up the good people before they go bad because the broken system chewed them up and either jaded into them indifference or turned them republican because preserving what little they perceive to have made before someone else "lesser" steals it becomes paramount.

And again, there's nothing preventing well-meaning minds from participating in the process in supportive roles post-50. Will some currently in office now continue if that were the case? My guess is likely not, but I'd also argue it helps to weed out those more interested in profit than providing a service to the country. And the country could use a whole hell of a lot of service right now.

    1. You don't need to vote in the primaries to vote in the general. This argument only holds water for the general.

    2. See above. The dem candidates were not all that extremely different in policies.

    3. Maybe the vice president everyone is so excited to become president when the current one keels over?

With that being said, I am 100% down with term limits, and I think that would actually help a lot more younger people get into the game while still allowing older people to still become it if people want them.
