ok, 15 dollar minimum wage is officially out of this legislation but now the dems have owned the libs and can pass the 2 tril recovery bill without looking leftist. I'm not sure why that's important, but it seems to be.

Ah yes, let's trust big companies to pay people higher wages if they cut taxes. Feel that trickle down, baby.

That big business tax to raise wages thing was stupid.

They need to get all 50 Dems to decide on a wage and phase in, and then put it in the next bill via employer-side tax penalties for non-compliance and be done with it, even if it's not $15.

Getting all 50 of them to agree would require their hundreds of lobbying firms to agree too, so not gonna happen.

Eh, it almost happened. Almost doesn't change paychecks, but 3-4 more people would have pulled it across the line.

Tbf pushing more stuff into payroll tax is just going to speed the growth of subcontracting and it is unlikely their workaround would have actually worked.

Probably closer to the 14th. My understanding was to save time, the house didn't remove the $15 minimum wage portion, so they are waiting on the senate to pass their bill, then the house will then re-vote on the senate approved bill.

Wednesday is maybe a procedural vote to advance the bill (out of committee?) not the full floor vote.

Real reason the minimum wage provision was not removed from the House bill was to formally let the Senate parliamentarian remove the provision. So technically the House Dems made a symbolic vote. Senate Dems hands are clean for not officially voting on the minimum wage. Progressive House Dems are unhappy but content.

Absolutely transformative if we can make the child allowance permanent.

I know this is unimportant but Psaki's hair is on point. If I was a betting man, I would bet that haircut + maintenance in the last month cost more than the total Bernie has spent on his hair across his entire life.
