It's a very complex argument these days because of how remote work is going to affect COL in a lot of places going forward.

For example, where I live is the lowest COL major city in the US (Memphis) - you can live on $11 here no problem right now. You won't be able to in 5 years though. Maybe less. COL is skyrocketing here.

If this was such a simple fix for so many, why was it not done before?

But it didnt say "out of poverty". It said poverty falls, which could be poverty at 100% of a current dollar figure is now 42% closer to hitting that poverty threshold or 42% of a group is no longer in poverty. Thats why I was asking about the distinction with how federal budgets work along a baseline.

And I don't know why it wasn't done before. Honestly. If poverty could be decreased by that amount by one bill passing, why didn't any president with full control of congress handle it over any number of previous administrations? 42% is a shocking number for an entire demographic.
