Are you talking about candidates that the party itself is advertising, or candidates that are running for the party?

The party gets to pick the former, not the latter.

I mean I don't know? It's just people on Twitter you see showing up constantly in political posts saying "I'm running in such and such". For some examples:

    https://twitter.com/AllenLEllison
This guy is running against Rubio in FL

    https://twitter.com/Btrambauersmith
This woman says she's running against Marjy Greene in GA

    https://twitter.com/Sites4Congress
This guy is running against Jim Jordan in Ohio (if he doesn't just drop out to run for governor or whatever)

    https://twitter.com/McGinn4NM
This person is running in a special election in NM to fill a seat emptied by someone who went to work in the administration.

    https://twitter.com/EricG1247
This guy is running against Devin Nunes in CA.

    https://twitter.com/AllenBGlines
And this guy's running against Mike Lee in Utah.

So this last one in particular, Allen Glines, is what made me start to wonder about the vetting process or who I should trust with donations. His Twitter account was promoting his campaign constantly in like every political Twitter thread you could find. He was taking donations initially then suddenly one day said he's suspending his campaign and issued donation refunds to people, then suddenly a few days later changed his mind again and returned to taking donations. So I was like, wtf. Seems a tad flaky how should we know if these random non-verified accounts are proper political candidates who are mounting a real campaign? I mean I also would have assumed that a proper US political party would ensure that a candidate was properly vetted and free of conflicts of interest, but we also just had Trump so that's a big nope!

    The best answer:
    https://democrats.org/who-we-are/sta...arty-websites/

Dig down to your state, then county chair and start there. They'll be able to help better than I can. You can also start at the state level.

    Spoiler: show

Anyone can run as either party as long as the state laws allow it.

At this point in the cycle immediately after an election you'll have people step in trying to ride the name of the winners party to a victory. Right now, a lot of people are putting their names out there.

As these candidates register the parties at that point can apply some levers. That's what primaries are for.

    That's the short answer.

The long answer is you are right to worry about who's been vetted for what. Right now it's time to be squirrelly about jumping on any bandwagon, especially with 2+ years to go until 2022 elections. And some very recent examples of how band wogonin can end badly.

I'll touch the first and last on that list -
That first Allen's website is flashy but gives me a very "Presentation over substance" vibe. He's got a counter that lists the 640+ god damn days until the next election. And then right below that are quotes from 3 newspapers with no links to where they're saying these quotes.

But his "About" section is better. It introduces his family, education, and career. There is a lot of information in the other sections than the front page, and makes a good case for his success, locally at least.

Then there's the other Allen. Holy fuck the 180 here. No pictures. Words salad in places, and that list. Gerd Dayum. And nothing on his twitter or his website tells you a fucking thing about him, where he's been, or what he's done other than he volunteered when he was 14 to help look for a missing girl.

No personal information such as family, education, career.

Again - worrying about who's been vetted for what is a valid concern. And I just put the best answer at the top and spoilered all this. Contact the party, don't pay attention to who's saying they're endorsed by the party at this point in time when making donations.

Thanks! That sounds like good info. I'm going to hold off on donating to anyone this early I guess. I'll wait until the candidates are finalized unless they have a solid history in politics. So yeah that Allen Glines guy didn't even have a secured https website, someone following him had to point that out and show him how to get a secure certificate lol. I mean I guess not everyone is computer savvy but if you're running for Federal office like come on now. There's also this Twitter I follow that promotes Democrats running in '22, but it doesn't seem like anything official.
    https://twitter.com/CongressProj22

Anyways, Kamala got to put that 51st vote to use early this morning after a 15 hour vote-a-rama. The Senate passed Biden's CoViD19 rescue plan:

    https://www.nytimes.com/2021/02/04/u...nate-vote.html
Senate lawmakers gave their support to President Biden’s $1.9 trillion stimulus package just before sunrise on Friday, clearing a major hurdle for the legislation to proceed without Republican support after an overnight voting session that stretched for about 15 hours.

Vice President Kamala Harris arrived early in the morning to the Senate dais, where she cast her first tiebreaking vote, and the Senate adopted the resolution along party lines, 51-50, at about 5:30 a.m.

In the marathon session — known as a vote-a-rama and for which more than 800 amendments were drafted

But does 600 + 1400 not make 2000? They wanted 2000 and only got 600 a few months back, so now we are getting the rest? lol

Georgia was campaigned on $2k checks, not $1400.

Trust me, I know its stupid. But it's their position that they should approve 2000 more.
