Hange's final stand was one of the best sequences I think I've ever seen in an anime. The soundtrack for it especially was perfect.

I finally saw Chapter 1 last night. Toonami aired the dub version. It's not like I don't know what happens cause I read the manga. I think the dub is really good so I just waited. Anyway..

I still don't truly know (not without a major reread and rewatch) what's going on but the music is on point. Great animation and all that too.
Though as I said many pages ago or in the old thread the build up and the way to the final conflict, how it plays out and stuff, is all so awkward (given the available abilities/chars vs the threat). Regardless, to see it all animated with much extra scenes/padding injected was definitely a treat.

lmao I haven't had my feelings for a long time go "aw that's sad" to "what the fuck was that" in the span of 2 minutes. I mean, first they showed Mikasa's body, which is understandable and probably not too surprising. In fact, it was endearing. Then they out JP Rammstein on and things go to shit so quickly I can't help but laugh. I understand the point they're trying to make, going on from what they were discussing just prior to the credits but looooool

double lmao the discussions on the shitpost attackontitan reddit (called titanfolk) is just fun. I am loving the speculations of the credits scene (none of it happened in manga, that ended with the bird bit if I recall); the discussions around the plane seemingly hit a tower (or was shot down by "future tech") was most funny and then people arguing about it's the animation or the animators forgot, etc

ohshitohshitohshit the credits scenes adapted the extra final 6 page or so chapter, known as chapter 139.5 ... I remember seeing this way back then, BUT because I saw it in titanfolk the attack on titan shitposting subreddit, I actually thought it was fan made in response to the shitty ending of 139... now I learnt it's official

I'm glad they keep it the same. I know a lot of people didn't like the ending, especially the epilogue, but I thought it was perfect.

i know they added a few lines of dialogue in the anime but im pretty surprised that ending got such a huge amount of hate in the manga

I wanted Eren to finish what he started instead of some half-assed Zero Requiem. I wanted more from the Historia subplot instead of her just mostly disappearing post time-skip. And Zeke getting friendship no jutsu’d still irks the absolute hell out of me.

Then add the fact the author straight up apologized for changing his original vision for a more mainstream appeal.

It all just screamed laziness.

idk it just kinda felt like the author saw the complaints about nazi imagery and decided to double down post-basement. The genre swerve from "giant zombie survival horror" to "ackshully humans are the real monsters" and all the plot armor Gaby and related extras just sent things down the doom spiral. Throw in a primordial centipede with stockholm syndrome just because.

Anime gonna anime, man. Reddit seems to love the ending. I remember reading the manga ending a year ago and was decidedly "meh" about it. Sometimes it just feels like authors have no idea how a story is going to end before they start it. None of the ending (of what I can remember) felt like it was the plan from the beginning. Feels a lot like a "swing things based on fan reactions" kinda vibe.
