Lelouch is a genius manipulator and planner. Eren is a dumb kid who got his hands on a power he didn't understand and enacted a plan he wasn't even sure about, but went through with it because it was the only way he saw where the most number of the people he cared about survived. There were definitely other options and he wasn't smart enough to explore them. As soon as he touched Historia during the medal ceremony he became locked on a path he wasn't clever enough to change. If Armin had been the Attack Titan things would have been very different, but being forced into a role you aren't suited for is one of the repeating themes across all the characters.

Yeah except no, to make the comparison is to take the absolute most surface reading of things and ignore all surrounding context.

The Zero Requiem only came up because the world was splintered and warring AFTER Lelouch managed to kill his father and thought his sister was dead. So basically, it was Lelouch's epilogue plan for the world. He'd already achieved one primary goal and failed the other. He decided to gather up all the hatred of the world into himself and then kill it to create a path to peace.

Eren's plan, on the other hand was "sure hope my friends stop me," *commence rumbling*

Lelouch had everything planned out to the last detail and it all went exactly as he predicted. Eren operated on what his future vision showed him was going to happen assuming he couldn't change anything and couldn't predict anything beyond his own death. Literally the only similar aspect between them is "I'll be the bad guy;" Lelouch intentionally set himself up to fail, Eren hoped he would but proceeded with the intent to succeed.

And Eren isn't a "worse" character because he's not a Lelouch-level genius, that's a bogus comparison. There aren't any characters like Lelouch in the AoT world and calling the rumbling a worse Zero Requiem and Eren a worse Lelouch is like saying a car is bad because you can't drive it across a lake. Your expectations were never fair to the car.

Look man, all of that context IS part of why it's a worse Zero Requiem. The show ended up doing the same damn ending and everything that brought it there was worse than how it was executed in Code Geass. I don't think Eren is a "bad" character. I think his character arc resolving in the same essential plan as Lelouch makes him a far worse character for that ending BECAUSE he's not a mastermind who can plan it all out. You literally spell out some of why that is.

And your reasoning also falls apart because you assume Eren proceeded with the intention of succeeding. He never wanted to succeed. He wanted to be stopped. Which you know, was the essence of Zero Requiem except that Lelouch made sure that he would would be stopped. Eren could only manage to hope that his friends would stop him. I'm sorry you got a worse Zero Requiem ending. It's okay to like it, I don't think it's all that terrible an ending on it's own.

if we're gonna compare plans to unite the world against a common threat than Ozymandius in The Watchmen did it better since he got to live at the end, clearly AoT and Code Geass isn't as good an ending as The Watchmen.
