Alright guys, looking for advice for a noob who missed out on the GME train. I've always been interested in trading, but never put the time and effort into learning. But with all the GME shenanigans, I came close to throwing some money at it. I downloaded webull and was about to set up an account, but then I realized this might hurt the refi we're currently working on. Don't want anything to come up during underwriting to mess that up, so I decided to just paper trade for a bit and pretend I'm joining in on the fun. We should close on our refi next week, and I don't think I'd feel comfortable jumping in that late.

So, for someone looking to get started after the GME train, what's the best way to (safely) learn the ropes? I'm all for going in on the next big thing if another one comes along, but otherwise just looking to keep it simple/safe for now while I get my feet wet. Any resources, videos, whatever that are good to explain things in layman terms?

A few things about my investment goals. I've contributed to my work 401k for about as long as I've been eligible. I've always done the default pre-tax, until the past couple months when I started splitting some of that into post tax, so I should have a good mix down the road. So for getting into my own stocks, I'm just looking for something I can get a little extra spending money on the side, and maybe be part of a big gain if I can.

As far as taxes go, I've seen some of you mention putting aside 50% for taxes and I had a couple questions. What constitutes gains? Say some lucky soul puts 10k into GME and walks away with 250k. That's 240k gains right? But what if you reinvest that 240k into other stocks. Would you be taxed on that, or does it not count as long as it's invested somewhere? And for capital gains, keeping it in for a year or more, same questions. Does it need to stay in one stock to avoid capital gains, or can you buy/sell as long as you keep it all invested? I guess I'm just curious when it's safe to start taking profits out to spend, from the perspective of being taxed the least on it.

If you've got GME, Friday might not be the day. Friday is the day shorts get called, but it will take days to actually do so and the stock could keep rising the entire time.

Or not, I don't know what I'm talking about so don't use this as advice.

There's solid advice on r/investing you should look into.

This is not a normal or healthy market. This is not the time to learn things, this is not a good example or indication of the market or how it works.

Thanks, I'll take a look over there. I understand this is very abnormal, I guess I'm just upset that I'm missing out when I could be part of it if I had gotten into it earlier and was ready to go. But no, I don't expect to jump right into another GME. Just hoping to learn what I can, and when/if this happens again then I'll at least he setup to join that one. And if it doesn't, and maybe it never will, I'd still like to see what I can do in a normal market.

Open an account with webull. Buy stonks. Pray to God you're not too late.

Or keep your $500 and say maybe next time.
I mean, it's literally too late right now but I'm thinking of waking up early / staying up late to place an early bet.

Should I wake up early and start researching/getting everything setup or stay up, get everything setup, hit my buy button on whatever and then sleep through the day.

I'm thinking the attention this has attracted means it's gone beyond the Friday deadline reddit set and it ends when it ends.
Especially what with the succulent prey that hedge funds have seemingly become. At least the aggressive ones, and I feel no moral guilt about playing a part in fucking those over.

The posts I'm seeing on reddit are from people who can afford surgeries and medical treatments for their families or dogs or pay off student loans now, etc etc. The hedge fund bros are mad they won't be able to buy a third summer home. They were also trying to short a company with 50k employees into nothingness during a pandemic, so fuck them through their pants.

Yes but I have the day off for the next 4 days.

Should I stay awake all night researching and then go to bed since I can sleep all day or sleep now and wait until tomorrow .. and now I feel dumb typing it out.

    Time to go make coffee.
