Look, the fact is housing production entered a terminal decline after 2006, and if we don't reverse that decline housing affordability and homelessness are only going to continue to worsen.

If your solution isn't "evil developers" then you need to come up with a way for the state to finance massive public housing construction all across the country that is politically feasible.

Telling yourself that "actually there isn't a shortage" is ostrich-level ignorance that hurts the very people you claim to care about.

I already own a house. Hell, I own two. The status quo works just fine for me. But I have 3 kids that it absolutely isn't going to work for, that's why I care so much about fixing this broken market.

Not only are spicys ideas wrong, but he can't even recall the data he is quoting correctly. This is why I don't bother entertaining his political posts; he isn't interested in learning or the truth, he just wants to shit on capitalism and win regardless of reality.

There is no amount of suffering or death too great so long as the revolution happens. Everyone left alive will be better off so the ends justify the means.

You can build all the houses you want, your above average person still doesnt have the means to cover the down payment.

Only for opposing capitalism. The ends don't justify the means if you are a capitalist pig like Churchill.

The vast majority of adults are homeowners, and even the majority of Millennials are now. (in America, can't speak for our hat)

If we significantly increased housing construction even more people would be able to be.

the figure is accurate, and we are aligned on the solution, but millennials have the worst home ownership progression rates of any generation in the past 100 years, zoomies are set to be even worse, housing prices have outpaced wage growth for 5 straight decades now, and though 50% of millennials now own homes the majority of the remaining 50% are unlikely ever to. the situation is dire and worsening.

Then prices will decline until they can. That's how capitalism works. If the supply outweighs the demand prices come down. The problem is we've put a chokehold on supply by preventing development.

Looked it up and 65-66% of people in the US own a home. Much higher then I expected but I also wouldn't claim "vast majority". 58% were owner occupied and Rentals counted up to 31% of housing.

I agree more homes need to be built, it's fucking insane how little development there is that would both give jobs to people and homes for people to live in. Literally a win-win.

My grandmothers house came up on the market after the current tenant passed away, it was $160k in fucking nowhere upstate NY and was around $1100-1300 month payment with what I could have put down. Totally doable for me but not for that location. Average income there is around $14-17k. Who's buying a house there at that price other then some NYC landlord scumbag (or me who was looking at renting it to my brother who still lives in the area)

It's really a shame too, because the oldest millenials were 29 at the best time to buy a house ever (2011) but too many weren't established enough to do so.

Still they're only a couple points behind the GenXers. Tale still to be written on Gen Z but after a good start the lack of supply and high rates are likely to slow them down a lot. I'd be surprised if rates aren't at least somewhat lower a year from now though.

Yeah, 2011 just wasn't a good time since I was just wrapping up loan payments. I suppose knowing what I know now maybe I could've dipped in.

Worked out; place I was living in had affordable rent so that's what let me accelerate loan payments and get them done early.

SEIU at kaiser voted 98% in favor of a strike unless kaiser gets it shit together by the end of their contract on Sept. 30.

Something like 64,000 SEIU members work for KP. Biggest Healthcare strike in US history if it pops off.

I can't see kaiser not giving in, but we said the same thing and we were out on the line for 93 days. They're a lot bigger than us though. We'll know on the 20th if they put their 10-day in or not.

Not shocking as I am part of SEIU for the agency I work for and for thr record..they are fucking terrible. I also have Kaiser so..yeah lucky me.

I'm not even mad at them though because if we could have gone on strike we would have as we worked without a contract for over 6 months and idiots all voted yes without backpay adjustments.
The times I've been to Kaiser in the last year other than my mental health providers have all been shit. Kaiser itself needs an overhaul but that won't happen anytime soon. I've even had them tell me to just go to the ER and not make an appointment because they can't see me for 6 weeks.

Recent Kaiser experience since my dad was admitted for severe dehydration after dealing with Covid. We waited an hour for transport to get him out of the hospital. They didn't even arrive. I asked what was taking so long. I guess after an hour we were #2 in the queue. The discharge nurse apologized, returned with a wheelchair, and okayed us to walk ourselves out.
