take the PMP cert course on Coursera, most states (if you've filed for unemployment) will offer it for free.

Shit is bad for a pretty specific (but large) group of people whose jobs are being automated along with FAANG companies realizing the arms race is over.

No unemployment sadly, I stupidly took my last show as a 1099 and have nothing to claim against.

    But also, proDUCT, not project

(although I could probably be a successful project manager too, that's what my wife does)

I just changed direction with my job search. I got in with an e-discovery start up that wants me to start taking over whole projects and it made me realize I do not enjoy this work and certainly don't want to do it at a higher level. Now I'm searching for research-oriented positions and advisor roles.

Project management is certainly a part of product management, but there's a lot of other components that differentiate them.

That being said I work as a product manager for a mid-market tech company, I agree that working towards a PMP will absolutely help with filling a product management role. I second Coursera as a great place to start. They have a ton of really good content that will get you started.

Some of the certifications that help open the door in that kind of role are PMP like Zet mentioned, Certified Scrum Master (CSM), and a whole plethora of frame-work specific certifications. For example Agile is big right now in software development and a lot of places have adopted the SAFe methodology for that, and they have numerous certs they offer.

To your question about it being multipurpose/generalist it definitely can be. There's not as much of a huge emphasis on domain knowledge (though that certainly helps) so much as knowing the principles of product management.

That's funny, I'm applying for Product management roles also. 8.5 years of consulting has given me a ton of overlap in skills, but everyone and their mother is applying to be a PM it seems like.

What would you consider to be major skills that are the basis of Program Management? As ive mentioned above, being a consultant has given me what I believe to be a lot of overlap, but trying to change careers when every PM role on LinkedIn has over 100+ applications means the competition is fierce. I could use any advice i can get right now.

Huh, I went through the PMI's Project Management training course but I never bothered to get the certification. I guess I can anytime I want since I paid for the course. Not necessarily relevant to anything I'm looking for but maybe it can't hurt?

Ive been a PM for about 8-9 years now in different capacities and I never bothered with any certifications. My BS is in Biology and I don't think it necessarily matters what your degree is in to be successful, but my product is a smaller niche product in the life sciences and automation field so that helped.

Communication is the biggest thing. Being able to communicate and listen are critical.

Ignore all of those PM influencers on LinkedIn, they're phony and obnoxious.

If ya'll are super desperate and want to hate your lives, the national teacher shortage is wild.

Private schools will take virtually anyone with a masters, and most public schools will accept temporary suspension of credential requirements for a masters holder. I'm not sure if you are qualified to teach community college with only a masters in your field, but that's also an option.

Just get ready to realize that the reason why most people can't distinguish Trump from Biden is that most kids in America can't distinguish their heads from their asses anymore.

Esp for archi, there are a bunch of elite private schools in the LA area that would love to make up some BS about how they offer unique courses other schools don't have. I literally think you got a shot at asking Harvard Westlake, Marlborough, Polytechnic, and those sorts of schools if they are interested in film editing classes. It would suck considerably less at wealthy privileged schools.

    Appreciate the insight.

And i'd rather sell feet pics on OF than be a teacher. Pay is horrid.

A lot of probation departments just look for a bachelors cause they can't find enough people willing to deal with juvenile probation since no one likes getting yelled at by 13yo kids who think Straight Out of Compton is a documentary on making it in the rap music world.
