    Lumber costs may have started to go down but that is for dimensional lumber only. Sheathing is still sky high and now steel and adjacent products are going through the roof (no pun intended). Our firm is still building like mad right now but I wonder if these material costs will put a squeeze on new construction soon. Most of our clients are holding out that by the time they break ground in 2022 it'll all be fine.

    I also got offered a new job 5 minutes from my current house doing outpatient psychiatry for the largest healthcare groups in the area. They offered $104,000 per year, seeing patients for 40 hours a week, taking night call 3x per month, and doing weekend inpatient rounds once every 8 weekends.

    I asked them if they realized that salary amounted to less than $50 an hour and that RNs are making more than that...

    I also sold 4.5 Ethereum for $3,090 because my sell limit triggered and I never bought back in.

    And we lost our baby (blighted ovum)

    It's been a shit week of fails.

    My coworker was so desperate that he and his wife almost went through the process of rezoning a commercial property (was converted to a home somehow) to a residential via the LA city planner. Almost... but walked away when he considered how much of a bitch it was going to be rezoning. It was very affordable for the Echo Park area.

    That really sucks man. I have a decent income similar to yours, but I'm competing with people who can liquidate stock options.

    Doesn't help your case, I know, but I empathize: Especially given the nature of your work and I suspect wanting to actually live in/near the community you serve?

    Well, I'm trying to keep my kids within a reasonable distance to their mom. There are two cities I'm looking in specifically. I also need a lot. 5 bedrooms. Probably 3 full baths. And I'd like a basement (finished or unfinished) because one of my very few life goals is to build a nice home theater.

    It sucks, the OB said it's incredibly common and my wife found out she was pregnant way too early because she took frequent ovulation and pregnancy tests because she was so excited. OB said it shouldn't have any lingering issues and isn't really indicative of any overall fertility issues.

    And that house there, it's been on the market over a month, which is weird. But the kitchen needs redone and that master bedroom is lime-fucking-green. It's under budget though, and those things can be fixed pretty easily.

    Holy hell at that house! Sometimes I really hate living in a high cost of living area where a tiny 1 bed 1 bath shack under 1k sq ft is on the market for $2.1 million. Granted it is on 5 acres and has an ocean view but still. Then again that mansion is on a tiny lot with very close neighbors which isn't really my style.

    Edit: sorry to hear about the miscarriage. My wife and I went through quite a few of those over the last 20 years together but we are lucky to have our three awesome (though VERY stubborn/crazy) kids.

    Yeah for that house price you might get a 2bd 1 bath manufactured home here in Portland. Maybe. More than likely just a townhome. Fucking hate the prices here.

    Yes, at this point... the jobs are there. Almost everywhere i go they have signed up, and the people working there are bitching that they are understaffed. This isn't even just for the lower-paying jobs. My court has had an open HR position for over 6 months. The job has been offered to over 6 people, all of them turned it down (Two of them leveraged the job to get a raise where they are, thumbs up to that). This is a 70k a year starting job, so it isn't a bad starting pay. It has gotten bad enough that our current HR person was asked to put off her retirement to give us more time.

    Part of the problem is likely attributed to people getting so much money for sitting on their ass doing fuck all that they dont want to get a job making that same amount.

    The other part is people going from making 6 figures to now having to work a 36k a year job or stay on unemployment as long as they can while they take some classes and get qualifications for a middle ground.
