Personally I'm still waiting for UI. That I filed for in...December 2020. I got an 'advance payment" while things process and that's holding me over, but still waiting on the official determination, been months, but still just sitting at pending. I hope to not have to return to 'a job', but that's more specific to my scenario (GF is disabled, looking into getting her a caregiver, and then seeing if I can just be given that job as I've been doing it forever and it'd just be easier for everyone). Dunno where I'd go if I had to get a job, but probably would be some shitty fast food place.

If you're hiring and people aren't applying, then odds are you aren't offering enough in pay and/or benefits. It's all fun and games when capitalism works for bosses with employees tread underfoot, but suddenly when it's swinging toward the worker's favor, it's 100% their fault they don't want the shit terms. Yeah, no. America's fucked around, now it's finding out. Maybe next time when some asshole complains about waiting 20m in a drive-thru, they stop saying those jobs are just for teens and pocket money, not a career.

$25/hr MW, 30/hr work week with OT kicking after, and socialize the shit out of our medicine already so we're not seeing employers game the system so they don't have to put out. Toss in UBI as a treat for more right-wing tears.

    https://www.cnet.com/tech/automated-...es-by-mistake/

"If an applicant's work history has a gap of more than six months, the resume is automatically screened out by their RMS or ATS, based on that consideration alone," reads the study.

Friend of mine voluntarily quit in June from a toxic architecture studio. She's already said no to a few firms knowing that she doesn't have to settle for shit pay and long hours because so many places are hiring right now. Hoping she works here so I can have a friend that isn't a work friend in the office.

I work in HR and (manually) look at applications- no recent employment is a definite big red flag. Sure it may be weeding out some people who would be good fits but, in my experience, the majority of people that apparently don't need to work with big gaps are not the greatest employees

Ok. Except I spent 8 years unemployed. Not because I wasn't trying, but basically banging my head against Unicru personality tests and these fucking systems.
So after 6 months, it's just going to be endless "because you are unemployed, you will stay unemployed, fuck off".

I feel you. I also know they'll just say "yeah I hear you, but that's someone else's problem. I want to hire a person who doesn't have all that"

It's bullshit. People want the perfect candidate, then they want to underpay em.

I don't want to sound too harsh but I have a hard time believing you were actually job hunting for 8 years, you only want to do 1 very specific thing that doesn't exist where you live? I am confused
Blaming it on HR software is not the greatest excuse when I'm sure a lot of places don't even use something like that

I did so every time the application needed to be refreshed, during the entire period of my unemployment. I followed up both in person and by phone, until I received polite, but essentially, "fuck off"s. After that it was just the applications.
My state of employment is not a novel problem to me.

Meanwhile I can't get a warm body in the door.

I'm offering literally more for one of the positions than I've ever known anyone to make, and have had 8 no shows for interviews.

I've had 5 different people go through the entire hiring process for a lower tier job just to not, you know, actually show up.

I offered someone 190k a year the other day for a basically entry level job and got turned down.

Does this job require knowledge of any kind? That salary would bump me up over my sister and I want to be the highest paid sibling again.

While I've seen similar "we're paying above market average" sorts of posts elsewhere, I suspect the problem lies in that these averages are based on past standards that simply aren't flying now. Since portions of the worker side are trying to redefine what normal is, this may mean some fields have to step into uncomfortable territories to reestablish themselves and you may have to have an awkward chat with your boss(es) about upping the offer and possibly everyone else's pay.

But what's also true is that the pandemic isn't over. Not only do workers not want to be treated like garbage, they want to feel both safe and that the risk is worth the reward. Just merely being above average may not cut that proverbial mustard when one bad day could kill you or ruin your lungs forever, and it may behoove your application process to stress masking, vaccinations, sick leave, and other medical perks if it hasn't been already. And while it's true that applying such may rid you of the anti sorts, would you guys really, really, really want them in the long run?

At least to me, a lot of this feels like common sense, but I need to remember that capitalism and common sense don't always mesh.

Edit: And also curious about Buffy's job offer.
