Housing shortages are a problem almost everywhere, and interest rate hikes hit homebuilders harder than anyone. Whenever we get out of this current inflationary period our home affordability root problem is going to be worse than ever.

Yeah. Primarily because of zoning that bans apartment construction in the vast majority of every city.

And because the market reacted to 2009 like no one was ever going to buy a house again (and for a few years they were right because millenials were underemployed, underpaid, and the leftover housing stock from 2009 was upmarket.)

I could have bought an 11 pull and have 1000 gems left over, but all I got was this silly title.

And student loan debt skyrocketed because public colleges/universities were one of the biggest losers when it came to state budget cuts.

Exactly why I bought my home in Nov. '09. Excess of cheap foreclosures, low fixed apr mortgage loans, and first-time home-buyers tax credit.

Ah yes, the technicalities of literal recessions. The average working class family struggling to keep food on the table, gas in the tank, bills and rent/mortgage paid, can't afford childcare, has to give up the family pet, will never retire, and is one bad cold away from losing it all. Is really concerned with the GDP that quarter deciding if the economy is in recession. Despite clear economic headwinds and increasing difficulty.

Thanks Whitehouse, for caring about your optics more so than the people.

The study found that by age 26 more than two-thirds of young adults in the U.S. lived in the same area where they grew up, 80% had moved less than 100 miles (161 kilometers) away and 90% resided less than 500 miles (804 kilometers) away.

Seems like a roundabout way of saying a lot of people can't make enough money to move away from their parents.
