It definitely wasn't great when everyone worth a shit was all on one team. I remember that Adders <5% win rate while Mael/IF just swapped places.

You might think "just change GCs" and you certainly wouldn't be the only one thinking that. Everyone would change and then that would be the shitty GC for the exchange period. It was awful.

Don't get me wrong though, I dislike what it became as I don't think it's much better.

The queue was horrible, up to an hour wait, and you would still end up with idiots because everyone would switch to whatever flavor-of-the-month nation was dominating at the time.

I do think this new system is step in the right direction, but if they want the casuals to play they really gonna need to up the participation trophy reward

I have alll of the win achievements in PVP and those times were... contentious. It was fun at times on both sides of the coin, but when all the pubstompers just roamed from GC to GC, that shit got annoying.

I have 938-ish wins at a 39% winrate. It used to be way higher back in the day, but these days, I shoot for maintaining above a 33% (my aim is to hold 40%), since its basically herding cats out there. Still, I don't want to go back to non-FA. If you were in the wrong GC as the discord Hoard, you may as well just not queued at all until they roamed to your GC. Plus the queue timers were abysmal back then, and when you have to wait for fucking 3 factions to all queue up (sometimes its bad enough with just 2 if you dont have freelancer - look at WoW's queue times for alliance before freelancer was introduced), it sucks to have 50 minute queue times because the hangers-on all switched to a single GC because they hate getting steamrolled.

Alternatively, accept the fact you're not going to turn the majority of PvEers into PvPers. Strongarming folks into content they're disinterested in because the rewards get too good leads to its own form of loathing and resentment.

Basically, the eternal problem with XIV's PvP will be that it wasn't built from the ground up with it in mind. The nuance and variety some crave of the system is impossible without compromising other foundational systems that risk turning the game more into something people would hate. All of this is before problems like Pre-mades vs. PUGs or bandwagon faction jumping making the experience inhospitable. The diehards will never be satisfied in this regard and there is a point where, "Play another game if you want that..." is the actual ideal solution. This'll never be WoW, GW2, New World, or whatever other FotM gankfest is popular at the moment.

Non-free agent was shit for anyone not abusing the system. Dead and buried is the best goddamn place for it.

Or, you know, just pay 50K and go to the Grand Company that cared about PvP until you were done with achievements, since exp was given no matter what. Now we have a perverse system that encourages nobody to try and win because it's not worth the effort for the minute win from behind chance, and the rest are just there for the daily exp, which doesn't care if you win or lose.

So I rewatched the Menagerie scene when he appears with Lunar Bahamut and when he's talking about being a Sovereign Individual and not caring about returning to the one true world he FUCKING WINKS. Like he was trying to fucking signal it was a fucking lie. God damn.

My concern with the expansion is pacing issues. Stormblood suffered from this to me, the start just shoved you around and threw some excuse to go tour Japan. We have the three grand companies and you're gonna tell me hey the most logical thing to do is go to Japan and recruit furries and weebs to save Ala Mhigo. Everything that happened in Orthard could have been an expansion itself, liberating Ala Mhigo was such an afterthought for an expansion where it was supposed to be the focal point.

All of the Steppe could have been completly ignored if their plan right from the get-go when in Yanxia was to shut off the gates and storm the castle, there wasn't any reason to do what we did with the Au Ra tribes other than serve as a lore dump that dragged on a little too long.

Considering the story arc is supposed to end with 6.0 I'm expecting this expansion will be galloping with action and story.
We know SB suffered due to them trying to deal with Doma and Ala Mhigo in one expansion, but I don't think they will make the same mistake twice.
