Patch 5.5: Death Unto Dawn (April 13th 2021)

FFXIV and Twitch collaboration event has begun and runs through August 24th. If you gift four (4) cumulative Twitch subscriptions to select channels that are currently streaming FFXIV during that time period, you will get a code for the Fat Black Chocobo mount on the Mog Station. The list is pretty big and supposedly growing, featuring most of the popular XIV streamers you all know and love.

It’s the first time the Fat Black Chocobo mount is available for anyone outside the US, so probably going to have a lot of EU and JP gifting.

Conceptually I just have a hard time paying money for a mount. Like some of these mounts are $30 USD, that’s two months worth of sub time + retainers.

I look at it another way, though, as it's not just SE pocketing money for zero effort. If there's a streamer you like, great. On the other hand, can also basically be giving someone $7-8 just because they play XIV. For some of these streamers, the influx of subs/money is a huge boost. Perhaps the only real issue out of the lists I've seen so far is it's mostly white people.

However both Mrhappy and Ethys have pretty notable XIV YouTube channels, while Sly mostly just sticks to Twitch, but I dunno if they even consider that.

Possibly stuff lost in the translation but on Twitter Matsuno is implying that his time working on XIV is done and there won’t be any further story with Ivalice/Bozja/Dalmasca which, if true, is incredibly disappointing but makes all those seemingly thrown together at the last moment story beats in the field notes make sense

I'm sure we'll see Lyon and Pagaga in the future if Beastmaster eventually becomes a limited job, everything else tho is wrapped up it seems.
