Yah, I think with a bigger budget they could make an insane TRPG. Throw in a job system or branching weapon/job paths. Expand on the weather/element system and shit would be awesome.

I still need to find time to play this..
That's the thing that my adult life needs the most for all these damned video games. That or a way to afford them without working
I've been playing it on and off and it is pretty fun. Think I'm on chapter 16 so I'm getting near the home stretch I think since some sites said the game has around 21 chapters depending on your path.
I really should check if there are any good TRPGs of similar quality for Switch.
how is the writing / story? the gameplay seems fiyah but Octopath's writing was so atrocious it made me quit the game.
the PSP remake of Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together is arguably better than Final Fantasy Tactics or XCOM 2 to claim the best ever tactical RPG title.
Person of Lordly Caliber and the The Knight of Lodis are prolly still well worth playing but the series has one shining pinnacle. don't make no sense to start anywhere else, especially when you're an adult pressed for time. actually started replaying it myself just this week. aiming for a less depressing ending this time.
The story is. Okay-ish uhhh. It's simple as fuck so if you're hoping for deep political intrigue and twists and turns you won't find it anywhere.
I picked this up a bit late and have been making my way through it, and the story definitely feels like it takes up wayyyy more time than any actual gameplay, and is probably my only real complaint so far. It's not terrible story or anything, just feels like way too much. I do enjoy the characters and how each feels very different in combat and combat in general has been great for me.
I kind of want to play through FFT after this to compare how much story that has since it has been way too long since I played, but I'm still just hoping the leaked rumor about it getting a remaster is true and will probably just wait on that.
FFT has a hell of a lot more combat in it since you're grinding fights inbetween story fights to farm for JP/items/characters. You can still engage in mock battles in TS, but its strictly for exp, cash and items, which are still useful, but nothing as expansive as the JP system that allows any character to basically become anything (aside from restricted or special classes).
Played it. Wrapped up one route. Tried going the golden route to begin with, then realized 'eh, should do at least one playthrough' given the split.
Doing it a second time, set the difficulty to easy.
The battles never feel *unfair* mind you, but given how NG+ is, kinda wanna breeze through it.
I like it for what it is, but I never expect any SRPG to be the second coming of FFT. . beyond an actual direct sequel to the game.
Part of me wants to see the true ending but at the same time really don't feel like playing through the game again. That and I heard you need to do specific things for a chance to go down that route.
It's really not that bad actually. Boils down to a few key choices in..3 or so chapters?
Spoiler: show
Second playthrough is going faster. I'm appreciating the story bits and characters I didn't go before.
So you HAVE to play twice to get the true ending?
I thought you could get the golden route in one playthrough. Unless theres a separate true ending in addition to the golden route.
Chapter 7: Don't use the thing.
Chapter 9: Help Sorsley
Chapter 10: Inform Svarog of someones identity
Chapter 11: Defend the Roselle and find they key
Chapter 15: Visit Symon
And then answer the questions:
Greet then with Wildfire?
Is Svarog the key?
Expose the statue's truth.
