Anyone else get into the closed beta? I haven't had the time to devote to beating all that's available but been messing around with it here and there. I highly doubt this game is what anyone asked for.
It's a weapon/gear gatcha so far. You get characters as you play and each character has their own unique weapon type. Like the swords that Cloud and Zack use are different. Limit breaks are an equipable item so I'm sure those will be sold/locked behind events. Skins arent just for looks, you get abilities from them. Every character has 3 materia slots and it's all able to be leveled up, but materia seems to have random base stats so that'll be aess to maximize. Everyone can equip 5 weapons at a time too, 2 that are tied to them in their main slots and 3 in sub slots that just provide stats and passive abilities. The sub slots can be any weapon type so that'll help ensure a weapon that you upgraded for some obscure/rarely used character doesn't go to waste.
Probably the most important part, story/gameplay. It's bad lol. They sold this like another remake that followed the original, but it's like something in-between original and remake with a lot of scenes cut. Like, after blowing up the first mako reactor, you're escaping through the city and jump on the train. No train jumping here, you have a quick fight when you're surrounded them next scene you're in 7th Heaven. Same deal with Air Buster fight, you just show up at the reactor, roam a couple hallways, then you're at the boss fight. In typical gatcha story quest fashion, you'll have fights when there shouldn't be. Like at 7th heaven, you'll talk to Avalanche members and Wedge is talking about eating, then you have a fight with some random enemies at some location that doesn't make sense. There's lots of stuff like that that doesn't make this a cohesive story, it's more like a bunch of bullet points with some extra original fluff added in.
I'm having fun enough with it, but I don't feel like it's got legs for the long haul at the moment. The stories available in the closed beta are OG 7, Crisis Core, and First Soldier. Dunno how far each goes, but you can see a character list and Red XIII is listed already.
Played the beta for a bit and it seems quite good.. but I also don't like playing mobile games so I doubt I'll play more than just a couple days of it. I was surprised to see you an possibly play the entirety of crisis core and the story part of first soldier? Crazy.
This is out today
Gacha is alright, one of the better ones.
Battle system is weird. Sort of pip based ATB system.
Menus suck mad ass.
Anyone know how well this plays on Apple TV with a controller?
I haven't looked yet but is it right to assume that this game is basically your typical gacha, or very much like opera omnia?
As in, it's battle based
Any story/plot is all just light novel like or cutscenes
Then it's battle
Repeat
No zones to explore/talk to NPCs/quests right?
How to do you transfert save between 2 devices?
It is very much like opera omnia. There are dungeons like kaslo said but there's only a few of them. Co-op is essentially the same system as OO, the model is mostly identical (chars for free, pull for equipment/abilities), the character and esper progression systems are nearly identical, etc
Story is basically an abbreviated retelling of the ff7 subseries with chibi models and what seem to be up scaled versions of the original game environments. I think there's a few little sprinkles of new dialogue tossed in here and there but maybe I just don't remember it from the original games.
There aren't any npcs or quests though in the game world though, no.
I uninstalled it. Would have rather played this on steam or a game system. I can't play this shit while I drive like I do with FFBE.
Yeah I just installed it and had a spin. Visually it's really nice and satisfying.
The gacha elements after you are able to get to the hub menu is a bit egregious as it throws it all at you but like way before I already was planning to just play it simply and go through the story only, and this was all within expectation. I don't plan to throw a single bit of money at bit but I think despite that I should at least enjoy the story.
The text is not from the OG or even remake of the game, but I would describe it as refined/remastered and is fit for purpose.
They announced that a PC version is in development
