Read an article about how banning the SAT from admissions has meant a ton of kids who can't do remedial math are getting into UC schools (specifically UCSD in this article)

I took a sample math placement test that they use, damn I've forgotten a ton of math. Don't remember what a log is or how to deal with negative exponents whatsoever. 26/45.

Anyone remember how to solve this equation?

after being out of school for years and being an English major, studying for the math section of the GRE was brutal. i took AP physics and calc in high school and got college credit, so I basically took no math classes in college too

and yet

my math GRE score was (barely) higher than my English score (but i nailed the writing GRE exam)

Like, I got a 34 on the ACT and took Calculus my junior year of high school and I don't remember a ton of this shit anymore

I sent that problem above to my 76 year old dad (who was a math major and taught HS geometry and algebra trig for 38 years and coached the state championship winning math team), I wonder if he remembers lol

Having to do this kind of math to get into a good college is bs. If your major has NOTHING to do with advanced math the requirements should be waved.

this is what bothered me doing the GRE. im an English major undergrad. applying to go for my masters in English. why do i need to know what the slope of a line is

I took the SAT and got a perfect score on the English or maybe 1 off, made up for the math that I got like 530 on.

Well, you don't for UC schools right now

But because of that they have hundreds and hundreds of kids in math-intensive majors that can't multiply fractions when they arrive on campus.
