Well AG's original premise was we are giving the Spanish kills for spreading smallpox and other diseases to the natives. I think that makes Mao the winner as under those rules he should get credit for famine.

Mao's economic policies leading to famine were criminally negligent and enabled only by the brutal aggregation of tyrannical power flagrantly applied, but ultimately largely accidental. something like 80-90% of the death toll under him (which while in the tens of millions is often largely inflated to silly numbers by conservative partisans) was the result of whoopsy daisy rather than intention.

not sure it matters to the dead but significant difference relative to, say, the classic Adolph Hitler death toll of Germany directly murdering about 35 million Europeans during their war drive across Europe.
