It is thought that it would take the average player 58,494 years to explore each planet, making this game impossible to finish. It is a true credit to the developers at Hello Games that a game of this magnitude exists.

You're not going to ever really explore any planet in NMS unless you've gone ahead and built a base with a teleporter on it.

In the initial 75 era when everyone was first doing Sky, no one could take him down before he started summoning. So the strategy was to kite him while the other gods got taken down. Eventually that changed to trying to kill him before he summoned, and then to zerging him in 12 seconds.

That's it. I forgot he summoned the other shinjin. I thought it was just people not being able to handle stonega, but then I was like we would have been able to do it easily after full Earth builds to tank Ouryu had been innovated.

I mean gredival will tell you, it wasn't about the ̶m̶o̶n̶e̶y̶ fight, it was about the camping experience.

I only returned to MMOs when Aion Classic came out. My depression went away for like four glorious months when I was camping Zap. Not only was it a race to claim, PVP meant you had to deal with direct aggression from competitors. They didn't have to MPK you, they could just gank you.

Most of the Aion-lifers who came back for their 18th "last hurrah" just put up with camping for Zapiel because the spear it dropped was the best weapon in the game for Gladiators. I didn't even get anything from Zap and I literally lived on that island as much as I could. Was there for every six hour window that I could be. I had to miss one, maybe two windows, because of work compared to my teenage and college years. But I was still at Zap consistently and more than Gladiator on Elyos. Even when had no chance of winning the claim over Asmo, I solo camped the time of death for the next window.

Then Aion Classic aged into their instance era and the game became shit.

I don't think about my ex of ten years who left me after I put her through her college for her AA as much as I think about how I would use lottery money to buy the rights to develop an official FFXI classic.

I mean FFXI is super casual now. Even if the premier content is still hard, there aren't the same institutional barriers (HNMLS with 18 competent members, and nightly raid time) that create a need to balance gaming with family life. Well, insofar as there is time for gaming as a parent (which is obviously going to vary with the age of children and your particular network of caretaking vs. involvement)

But I remember people in my linkshells that were married and had kids back in the day. Granted they weren't the ones who were up for 4 AM Tiamat.

when i do play ffxi now i can just log in for an hour here and there and do whatever. like gred said there isn’t really any content that you have to be omnipresent for

And that was how I was able to quit FFXIV when ARR got released. Wasn't going to bother with calling SE to get my account unlocked at launch.

My FFXI account I gave away to ensure I didn't touch that shit again. Probably was used for claim botting for BG back when Bert ran things. idk.
