I've come to accept that I peaked in XI.

I've gone on to do other things, but for me, none of it holds a candle to what XI camping was.

Abyssea was the destruction of my life's work, and nothing I do now will ever be as valuable or rewarding (to me on a personal fulfillment level).

And I've had every legal MDD treatment under the sun. Maybe I need to try shrooms.

Yes but legal shrooms, that's why they get the fancy name

Playing games for me is always about obtaining absolutely everything. Speedruns and things like low-level, no-item challenges and the like baffle me, I can't grasp how people enjoy that. An enormous MMO built on one of my favorite gaming properties was custom designed to trap my attention. The thing is though, there were several times when I was playing between 2002-2008 where I stopped, usually for financial reasons. Sometimes for a couple months, at least one time as long as a year. And when that happened, the moment I switched the game off and stepped away, it was like it never existed. Never had any separation pains or desire to return, it was like a switch flipped from "obsessed" to "never heard of it." So I also got Gred's thrill at winning a claim and even understand the appeal of not even needing anything, just beating other people, but that wasn't why I played. As soon as the option to collect and own things was gone, so was my interest.

Honestly I think my happiest time in the game was when I briefly had an EXP static, and later when I had an Assault static that cleared everyone up to Captain. 5 friends to grind with so we would all eventually get all the things we wanted, that would've kept me going forever.

I started HNMs to get what I and my friends wanted. But the people I came up in the game playing with didn't have the stomach to grind Kings. I was able to drag them through Sky, through Sea, through Limbus. Took a social shell all the way up to being able to do JoL and Bahamut v2. But the only thing they couldn't handle was Kings. We could fight Jorm, but one of the seven Fafnirs we claimed? Someone sang on the tail and caused a spike flail and someone else was crafting during spawn.

They would rather not compete and complain about the structure of the game meaning that Adaberk and Ridill were forever out of their reach. Comparatively, I leveled WHM to get into a real HNMLS and I camped. I missed a Calc final to camp Faf solo, hoping I could snag it and get invited for the kill (resulting in my only C in college/life)

That's how I learned the fundamental truth of MMOs. Some people deserve BIS, and others don't. The distinction is not hard to make.

A game that does not get that distinction correct is not a game worth playing. Thus why I quit the genre except for the brief period when Aion Classic was a world boss centric game.

Last day of school. My favorite part is passing all the remaining classroom treats out before the end of the day. Send these kids home back to their parents so fucking high on sugar!

They don't often mention the revolution was also against the king's outrageous school vacation policy.

Schools in Florida have such a weird start/stop time compared to what I grew up with. NYC was more like what you have while I was growing up.

What I really want is to be able to have more than two weeks of winter vacation for the kids. I like to have two summers in one year and you can't go to Australia for just two weeks. You need the week before holidays and the week after holidays. But they fine you for each week your kid is out of school culminating in basically having to go to court. I pay the fines anyway, but that shit sucks!

My little man still has two more weeks and then school starts back up in mid August. Growing up school always started after Labor Day in NYC.

Still a ton to unpack but good enough for the first day.
    Spoiler: show

I have no idea where to put my bartop arcade. My previous had a humongous kitchen island with power outlets that was perfect, this place has no such option.

I love the ceiling but my guy, is that a studio apartment? I know you're unmarried, but are you allergic to 1br homes?
