Time for a true first world problem. Ordered a brand new phone from AT&T. Finally arrived today. The phone is resealed. It isn't even a new phone. The Apple seals are gone and the box is sealed with white tape on the sides. The phone is now sold out so I have no idea what they are going to do to fix this.

Which one is it? I would call customer service and ask to speak to a manager right away and make them issue you a refund. Maybe an actual store still has one in stock. I always go into a store to buy a more expensive item (phone, tv) so I can see the box and make sure it's not used, busted up, or even open box.

256gb iPhone 14 Pro. Already called them and they are going to mark the item as defective and send me a new one. Just annoying because my wife’s phone is breaking and she was going to take my phone so now we have to wait longer. It is going to take time to hear back from the team and then time to get the new phone shipped out. Mostly just a pain in the ass to deal with. I have ordered phones from them many times and never had this happen.

Got letter about a loan of mine now being serviced by Sloan. Had to log into Nelnet and confirm the details and then noticed the loan listed it was sent out in 2006 for WGU. While I did attend WGU I didn't attend until 2016....and my employer paid for all of WGU. So not sure wtf is going on there. Also love that original loan was for $2700, I've paid $3400 so far into it and still owe $500 according to them. It was apparently placed in deferment for the past 4 yrs since my last payment but I don't remember requesting that either. I made a $300 payment in 2020 which I thought was the last payment since my balance at the time was def showing that.

The highway washed out between where I live and where I work/town/shop/kid goes to school etc. They are doing convoys at the moment at 8am and 4pm for now but more rain coming in so I am not hopeful it will continue. Lucky I can work from home but this makes things very difficult for my wife who is in school currently and our son whose school is past the closure plus it means that our other two kids school that is closer is closed currently. What a pain in the butt.

The road is also closed going south from us so we are totally stuck other than the small window in the morning and afternoon when they allow us to drive through.

I feel like there's a land slide and road closure on highway 1 near Big Sur at least twice a year. Makes me wonder what the insurance rates are on those houses on the cliffs. Not that the people who own those houses even know.

Lol only people with more money than sense have those houses right on the cliffs. Fire is a bigger issue for insurance rates than slides. The slides mostly just ruin the road. Also major road closures like this are more infrequent than people think. I would say every 5ish years we have a major event. The main reason why the closures are getting longer is because Caltrans has changed how they handle them and regulations prevent contractors from pushing dirt into the ocean so they have to ship all the dirt away which makes the process slower. In addition to that instead of just clearing and fixing the slides quickly they are way over engineering each project now for "long term" fixes which makes them take way longer.

Fucking hate CA. Renewal for car registration came in mail today. $681 and I have to do this every fucking year, though it goes down in price per year since it's based on value of the car at purchase.

Yeah gas in CA has a tax slapped on it that's supposed to be for road maintenance (which living in Sonoma County - LOL). For electrics it's all just lump summed on to the renewal fees

Yeah, that came out a few years ago as the state noticed a significant dip in transit funds from the gasoline tax as more drivers switched to hybrid and electric.

By comparison, I have a 2015 Acura tlx and I pay 285, and I think Astylla's 2015 civic was like 260.

Yeah I got roped into the EV hype train too much and wanted to get an I5 to "save" on gas prices here in CA and didn't have a car at time anyways. Now trying to sell it since i'm only at a 2k loss when factoring in the tax rebate I got and go pick up a used Prius or something else.

Luckily I only put about 500 miles a month on my car.

Yea you wouldn't realize how stupidly expensive the CA gas taxes pile up, currently at 51 cents/gallon. It's indexed for inflation so it's only going to go up every single July 1st.

I paid $179 for my registration today in CA (2014 Honda Civic) but I also needed to do a smog test which was $44 ($30 for the labor, then $8 for the certificate and then taxes plus a transmit to the DMV fee)
