Had to replace a sink drain a few months ago and I feel these problems so hard. Sucks when you go to Home Depot to buy a wrench that fits, only to have to go back out cause you didn't notice you have no plumbers putty to prevent seal leaks

    annnd got offered a job i didn't even apply to (general canvassing over the last 2 years i've been invited to 7 gigs that i didn't apply for but the other 7 were all good) 8th? total dud; Was told i got the job; they even paid for someone on the same job to drive the other way to come get me then head over to the destination; said "let us know when you're heading up here so we can book your hotel" we let them know we were on the way they let us drive 3hrs up; we asked for hotel details and they were like "yeah we aren't hiring for this gig anymore but if you want a job you can hire for our gig in Oklahoma" other 2 said fuck no right away; and 1 person wasn't worth flying out and putting in a hotel they were looking for 3 ppl at one expense. Theeeeeen the person they paid for gas to drive me up there was like "yeah i'm not heading back in that direction for another 2 days i got other shit over here before i go home" so me and the other guy had to split an uber back home;

This job requires data; i usually just use wifi calling; so i don't have phone service unless i'm on one of these gigs, so to be out the 80 bucks to turn this phone on, then half the uber ride back on a split share; and a wasted 8hrs; to come home and still be unemployed. Kick in the dick

Well, today I had a DOOZY.

Get up, make 'Neko brunch since he was so slow, run to take a shower before I take him out to get some errands done. (Shoe's on the other foot since he lost his job recently; I got gas for my car and he don't. So I'm being a nice sister and helping him get to the unemployment office and to DFCS so he can make sure he can go to the doctor while he hunts the wild job) Just as I was washing my hair..The water cut off. (There's teh fail.)

Turns out the water company was playing with the water pressure + WE HAD A LEAK. (Second fail.) What was worse, is I was washing some clothes when this happened. (Third fail!) So urrgh! I scooped up all my clothes and went to the laundromat to get 'em done. Took me longer than I wanted to b/c I also had to pick up a grocery order, but I'm just glad I got that stuff done. Whew.

Happened faster than I thought, but my mom's irresponsible money use has caught up with us. Need to replace our power meter and line to the pole because we've been getting lost neutral ups/downs on voltage. Thing was installed before 1980, so not surprising.

Still, as a recap, she's tossed thousands at my irresponsible nephew's lawyer fees for child support fights that he's pretty much destined to lose despite how much of a fuck up his ex is. She's also fallen prey to dating site scam sites with a couple thousand blown there since I noticed the transactions started showing on her account. I know she loans other relatives all willy nilly, too. This month alone I've had to rip into her because we couldn't afford getting our dog his allergy shot while I had to dip into my own highly limited savings for a bag of food.

Now, I have an MRI coming up next week for my busted shoulder. I've long suspected I've needed surgery for repair, so while getting that "confirmed" will be nice, there's still a matter of when it can happen, if my insurance will even cover it, and probably 3-6mo of recovery. The plan was always to find work once I was patched up, but now I may need to expedite that. Just... good luck finding someone that'll hire with one good arm, I guess. Applying for disability doesn't even seen like an option. I also have to weigh this against my autistic quirks and stress management. Basically, any kind of time crunch job that has me dealing with angry people is a no go, which limits possible remote options.

Still, we could've had this money if she'd listened to me and budgeted appropriately, putting aside x amount monthly for moments exactly like this.

I got my Real Id drivers licence in the mail. Man it is horrible. It's all plain and in black and white. Photo is in black and white too and they screwed it up. It's so washed out you can't even tell it's me. The picture on the temporary paper id was crystal clear. If I get stopped or when I have to show it anywhere they will probably think it is fake.

One of the charities I’ve donated to in the last year has definitely sold/shared my info to a mailing list because now I’m getting junk mail from half a dozen different charities I’ve never contacted asking for donations. Great way to make me be petty and refuse to ever donate anything again.

Been trying to get an MRI all year for my upper back/shoulder issue. Finally had one yesterday. They only did the shoulder joint, which has frankly been more of a referred pain area compared to the upper back stuff and the "minor issues" found reflect that. Am not pleased. I don't know what the fuck my PT guy said to my doctor, but every session more or less had them working an area on the interior of my shoulder blade near where the bottom of the rhomboid connects. And I personally suspect I tore good inch or so of that muscle off the bone. So, once this follow-up happens, I'm probably going to have to wait another 3+ months just to do what they should've done yesterday.

They can't write me off as some kind of opiod chaser, either, as I never once asked for a prescription for anything. Doesn't mean I haven't had bad days where I just wanted to shrivel up in my bed and die, though. Most pain avoidance I've been doing has simply been trying to not lift heavy things or reach certain ways, but sometimes that's been impossible to do because life gonna life. I can only assume they just heard "shoulder" and locked in on that instead of considering all the supporting muscles in the back. I just want this shit fixed. -.-

no clue this was my 2nd time seeing a doctor as an adult (and it was ER; the former was vasectomy); but my last actual checkup with vitals and stuff was when i was a minor (2002-2003); your guess on my liver is as good as mine

more of a win than fail thread post but it's an update to the fail story; one of my friends is a nurse. She came over and took out my stitches today so i wouldn't have to go back to the hospital for it. Lol the most reassuring thing she said "first time, but i watched a youtube video before driving over" but they're out now. Will def be a scar but i don't care about that. She even brought over antibacterial soap and cleaning supplies like saline to help me from getting infected. but they're out now. here's the aftermath

    Spoiler: show

This is 10 days later after stitches out, was probably a lot deeper when i actually got injured. I assumed it was me on my bike, but i've fallen off that thing over 100 times in the last 30 years. always scrapes nothing ever cut into me falling off of my bike. like what piece of glass did i fall into lmao

Home electricity is officially fucked and everyone we've called is like 2-3 week wait. Nice to know the concept of emergency doesn't seem to exist in this field. Was already trying for over a week to get estimates.

    Mood spoiler: Sad
    TL;DR: My father is dying

    Spoiler: show
Went to hospital ten days ago for abdominal pain. Gastro doctor detected large ulcer and hole in his stomach. Surgery was done to patch the hole. While in surgery, they found a large mass near his femoral artery they said was buried deep and never would have shown up on an endoscopy or colonoscopy. They were very confident the mass was lymphoma but did not do a biopsy as he had already been in surgery for a long time. He spent several days in ICU post surgery before being moved into a regular recovery room. They ordered CT scans due to the mass, and found another mass on his brain which they also suspect to be lymphoma. Confirmed diagnosis of congestive heart failure. He has not been able to eat or drink since the surgery, every time he tries he begins coughing for hours unable to get anything back up, so he's been getting nutrition via PIC line and IV. He failed a swallow test. Basically a flap in his esophagus is not closing properly and so all food/drinks are going to his lungs rather than the stomach. My father was a CNA for 30+ years, he has seen what feeding tubes entail and has adamantly refused a feeding tube. Mom is having conversations with him to make sure he understands--if he cannot swallow, and refuses a feeding tube, he is going to slowly starve to death. This is essentially also how my grandfather died, couldn't swallow and refused the tube and slowly wasted away. Between the CHF and lymphoma, and his age (77), doctors are not recommending further surgery, even a biopsy, and father is adamantly stating he doesn't want them done. He's starting to lose his ability to form sentences and speech is slurred. Originally we thought it was from the intubation tube irritation post surgery but now the more likely answer is the brain edema. Just a few days ago we were looking into rehab facilities so he could get stronger after the surgery and eventually go home. Now we're looking at nursing homes and hospice care. He's remarkably calm about all of it, probably considering his long medical career himself. I think he's just ready to check out. Fucking sucks.

I feel for you. My mother just passed this last Friday.

    My sad story:

    Spoiler: show
She had been on a 'temporary' heart medication (Milrinone) to increase heart function for the last several years. She was admitted to the hospital on Oct. 1 for an infection that was determined to be caused by gall stones in the duct, but after they got the infection cleared, she got C-dif, and then after that got cleared up, the Milrinone stopped working. After speaking with her and my father, they finally stopped all medication except morphine and she passed a couple of days later.

Oof, sorry to hear that man. I just lost my stepdad to cancer in July. Different sickness obv but it is a terrible thing to go through seeing your loved ones go through something so horrible. Seeing my dad go from a healthy 63 year old who was fixing his moms house to prep him and my mom to move into to what stage 4 lung cancer (that spreads to the bones/brain) does to a person in a matter of months was one of the most gutting things I have ever seen. I will never unsee the last few weeks.

I'm genuinely sorry you're going through it. I stayed tough for my mom but in private I was a mess. Super thankful to be dating my wonderful g/f. She went above and beyond.

I'm not sure what state you're in, but see if your state has paid family leave (PFL) depending on how much work you're going to miss. I'm in NY and PFL kept me whole for several months.

Don't be afraid to talk about it with friends/family. It will help a ton. Even if it's us here.

All of us older FFXI heads (i'm 44) are going through similar shit. It really sucks.
