I'm so sorry your family is going through it, Anoat. Sending you nothing but good wishes and hope.

Furthermore, my dog passed in June (Yorkie - 2 months shy of 15 years old) and I get a call from his vet on the day my mother passed saying that they had finally gotten the paw print cast in that was part of his 'send-off' package. I still wake up in the morning thinking I need to let him outside and check his bowls. It has been a pitiful half a year.
Edit: I should write a country-western song.
Anot, I'm really sorry to hear this.
Damn Anoat. So sorry you're going through that.

So sorry you are going through this Anoat, Bardi
So sorry to hear that Anoat. We went through a very similar thing with my grandmother going from looking for rehab > hospice care in a matter of days. Such a horrible thing. And very sorry for your loss as well Bardi. We'll be thinking about both of you and your families.
Sorry to hear about that Anoat, and I also come bearing condolences from Nimbex and those that remember you in CTY. (CurseTheYagudo, if you have never heard of our little band. We started in FFXI, and are a FC on Excal. Just a group of friends playing games now.) We're thinking of you.
Also sorry about your loss too Bardi, I'll be praying for both of you. ^^
Thanks all for your well wishes. Yesterday my mom walked in the hospital room after talking with the doctor and says to him “I’ve got some good news!” and he replied “You’re pregnant?!” Old man is still in there despite it all lol
Meanwhile, I'm growing weary of doctors persistently ignoring me about my upper back/shoulder and telling me there's nothing they can do and that there's nowhere left to go. Pretty sure I need my rhomboid surgically reattached to my shoulder blade (which there is a procedure for), but since no one wants to believe me and order that MRI, here I am. I just want to not hurt anymore. -.-
I hate how you have to socially engineer your doctor to get help. You should be able to just tell your doctor hey, this hurts, we haven't tried this yet so can we get this totally non invasive scan to see if my concerns are founded?

ER doctors are the worst. When I fractured my shoulder and my primary told me to go to the ER for an xray and cat scan (I fell in my apartment) the guy after pushing on my shoulder and making me scream in pain said it was just a soft tissue injury. Even the nurse when she was helping me get my shirt back on asked him again as I was struggling.
And don't get me started on my dad's ER doctor when he went in for a heart attack. They weren't able to get a stent in him, so the doctor just changed up his meds and told him to come back in a week to see his regular cardiologist. The fucking artery ruptured the day before his appointment and killed him.
I swear you could be bleeding out and they'll tell you it's fine and send you home.
Ask your PCP to refer you to a sports surgeon for your shoulder. I went to the one mine recommended, and after about two minutes of testing where he applied pressure and moved my arm while I told him when it hurt, he immediately sent me for an MRI. A month later, I was in surgery. The constant throbbing pain in my right shoulder is finally gone.
And if it doesn't get covered by insurance, are you going to pay the $14,000 for it or are you going to get angry at your doctor?
I get it. Some doctors do ignore their patients but sometimes we're trying to prevent you from a massive copay because insurance won't cover shit.
Ask you doctor for a specialist referral.
I think that is what he is complaining about. You shouldn’t have to know the right words to tell your doctor in order to get something fixed. They shouldn’t be saying “nowhere left to go” when there clearly is. His doctor should have said he has done everything he can do and then referred him to a specialist, instead of leaving him to come online for advice on what to do next.
This was an orthopedic specialist after the MRI I finally managed to get ordered only covered my shoulder joint and not the area I really needed scanned. Which I didn't find out until after the fact. I've been trying to work through this since January. I couldn't get a PCP to see me until June and they tunnel visioned on the shoulder part of the problem and did a useless x-ray at the start. I did about 4 months of PT after the fact where the lead guy who interviewed/tested immediately dismissed my concerns, and at the time, I was at least willing to give things a shot because I know I'm not an expert. At the end of that span, he couldn't figure out why I wasn't getting better despite the exercises, massage, scraping, cupping, and even some acupuncture. This is what set into motion the MRI I needed to wait a few more months just to get after said PT guy was supposed to send a letter to my PCP about my process. I don't know the contents of that letter, but since only the shoulder joint got scanned, I can assume it was left out or my doctor fucked up in their order. And even then, there was some observed peripheral damage. Just not enough for the ortho to suggest anything. He was the one I asked who I could go to if he could be no help, and the result was being told there is nothing.
So, yes, I am miffed. I can't hold heavy things overhead. I basically can't lift anything over 30 pounds with my right arm anymore. 5 minutes of physical labor where I have to use my arm risks shelving me for a few days. On bad nights I can't even reach behind myself to wipe my ass. Good sleep? The fuck is that. I could go into more detail about symptoms and what activities and angles trigger pain, but that does require them to want to listen. No one has even bothered to ask what I felt when the injury happened, which I can bluntly say was like no other sprain or strain I've experienced before. I never once asked for a pain killer prescription during all this, so they can't exactly brush me off as some opioid chaser as is prone to this area, either. OTC stuff otherwise maybe takes off 20-30% of the pain, which is needed on the bad nights.
I know the shoulder is a complicated area and what I believe I'm experiencing is subsequently on the rare side of potential injuries. We simply didn't get to the point where even insurance could deny me if I am on the right track, but knowing that could at least get some other balls rolling be it trying to crowdfund the cost or even apply for disability (which I know will probably rejected initially).
I have one. I'm sorry this is going to turn into a wall of text but could make for a interesting read for the doctor's here.
A long time ago I had a very serious issue with my left arm. I first noticed when I was doing a Dynamis run with my old LS. Elbow felt really sore. I thought I had just hit it against something that day. This was a Friday. The pain quickly got worse over the weekend. I also started losing mobility. My whole arm from the shoulder to the fingers became very stiff. I knew something was really wrong. I have no underlining conditions that could cause this and I had not suffered an injury. I called my Mom who was still working as a PA in surgery. She is highly medically educated. I used to tell her she knows more than some doctors. This worried her a lot and she wanted me to see a specialist immediately. This was not something that could wait. There was no way to know exactly what it was without tests, etc. She had a couple suspicions. She had me call my PC Doc the next day as soon as the office opened and to describe the problem and see if they could work me in that day. They did. My Mom had to come over and drive me down to the office because I couldn't. My arm was now locked in position. L shaped. It had started swelling up really bad. I couldn't even close my fingers. Had to go with her at about 5am because she always had to go in early. Sat in a waiting for for my Doc office to open. I saw my Doctor and he didn't know what it was for sure and he was going to make an appointment for some kind of specialist but their system was down and they said they would call me later. They did call a couple days later and the appointment was in TWO MONTHS!! There was no waiting two months as you will find out. My Mom was working that day. It was at the same hospital btw. She asked me to come sit in the surgical waiting room after the appointment so when she had a break she could find out what the doctor said. She was not happy. You would just have to know what kind of person she is. Fiercely protective and tenacious. Frustrated with the system is putting it lightly. ^^; So she goes, "Wait here. There is a Orthopedic surgeon I know that is here today and I will see if he has a minute." Luckily he was between cases. They both walked out and he came up to me.. he only looked at the arm for two seconds. Literally. He turned to my Mom with the most serious face and said, "I want you to get him to the ER right now! The way he said it scarred the absolute shit out of me. He thought it was a absess from infection building up or a blood clot. My Mom told her boss and they gave her the rest of the day off and she took me down to get checked in. Of course waited and waited. I finally was seen by a Doctor and they knew it was serious and ordered a barrage of tests. You name it they did it. The techs had to straighten my arm more for the scans. I developed a very high pain tolerance because of Crohns over the years but this made me yell out in pain. They were very nice and all but at the end they said all they saw was a lot of soft tissue swelling. No blood clot, no infection. They wrote me several prescriptions and sent me home. I was at the hospital from like 5:30am to 2:30am. I'm not kidding. There was a Walgreens in this area that the pharmacy is open 24 hours so we were able to get my medicine that included Oxy that I really needed because the pain was becoming unbearable. My Mom had me come to their house to stay and I didn't argue. I couldn't care for myself with only one arm and in such bad shape.
This is not the end. Far from it. It gets worse. Part 2 in a bit.
Part 2: Hospital bogaloo
So I'm at my parents house. My Mom is taking care of me and helping doing certain things cause I have only one arm that works. I hate it because I am a very independent person. I stayed at their house for a week. I was zoinked out of my mind most of the time because of the oxycodone. I had never had to take it before in my life and I guess it was a strong dose because good god I felt like a potato when it kicked in. They also gave me one of those anti inflammatory packs that you take over a period of a couple weeks. Prednisone. But it was a low dose. Not nearly high enough for what I had. During the week I thought I was getting better. Mainly because of the pain meds I guess. They only gave me a weeks worth and and when it ran out and wore off the pain came back x 100. My Mom told me later she knew it wasn't getting any better and she was planning on taking me back to the hospital. We went back on Monday. I have only described pain as a 10 on the scale one other time in my life. The arm was very swollen now. It felt like a balloon about to pop. Just to touch the skin was like an open wound. Every once and awhile there was this electric shooting pain that took my breath away and made me feel like I was gonna pass out. I remember sitting there in the ER waiting room AGAIN thinking, 'I wish someone would just hit me over the head and knock me unconscious.' I finally get taken back and this time it probably took another two hours for a doctor to see me. The same one. He was surprised I was back. My Mom had to be very insistate for him to do something. I will try and make this a little shorter. He got another Doctor in on it and then another heard about it and came and talked to me and examined the arm. They asked me all sort of questions like had I injuried myself recently, was I exposed to any toxins. After a while I heard them angrily whispering outside the curtains in the exam room. They ordered the same fucking round of tests that took hours but I guess someone finally paid attention this time.
I had a very serious case of Myositis and Cellulitis. The doctor who knew what the hell he was doing admitted me to the hospital immediately. He made sure to tell my Mom how serious this was. When they were talking I asked how bad was it. It was so bad that blood flow could be getting cut off to the muscles and the swealing was squeezing on the nerves causing extreme pain. He said we need to get this under control ASAP. Like a dumby I asked more questions and he told me I could lose my arm to something like this. I really had to try hard not to freak out. I was taken to a room quickly. They gave me enough IV anti inflammatory medicine and antibiotics that it should've come out my ears. Morphine also (thank god) I spent a little over a week in the hospital and it gradually got better. My Gastro doctor even came by and was really concerned about it. I did really well they said and was able to go home. Once again to my parents for awhile. My arm was in a sling for months though I didn't always wear it. I had to take high dose of Pred for months to clear up any remaining inflammation. After about three months I went to see the doctor that was in the ER that admitted me for a follow up. A very experienced surgeon it turns out. He told me I was making an great recovery even though I couldn't fully extend my elbow or fingers. It took about six months in total till my arm started to feel normal again.
I don't recommend going through something like this.
