Yeah, while some here are at the point where they've comfortably settled into careers or have the experience to overcome unreasonable (entry level) standards, all that bullshit floating around about job growth and low unemployment discounts those who've given up or literally have no other option but to settle for something beneath their pay grade because the alternative choice is literal death in our oh so prosperous society. And this is before getting into concepts like predatory schooling or "useless" degrees. Not everyone's in the position to move to where the work they could get is, either.

Bootstrap rhetoric isn't gonna change any of that, nor are employers really gonna give a shit about what he's had to go through up until now. All the more reason we need more leftward leadership so safety nets can support folks in similar positions, but lol that in Florida, I guess.

This. A lot of people don't seem to understand that many people don't have the luxury of skipping on the low-paying jobs to wait for a better one.

Didn't someone offer a job in his field if he would just apply a few months ago? Seems pretty first world fail there

Year and a half ago; and I did apply but didn't have everything to be eligible for the job. Wasn't a guaranteed job; was an introduction

I offered to get him a job in MA but it'd be quite a move. Maybe we can crowd source his moving expenses

The main thing holding CS back if I recall is the burden of cost for moving in conjunction with his mode of transportation being within biking distance only. I am sure if CS had the means to move anywhere and the ability to have a car then it would open lots of doors for him. It is easy to forget that motivation, experience, and education are not the only limiting factors.

Forgot one; family fucked my credit. Credit score is like 250, so I'm also limited to where someone I actually know would let me room with them. No way in hell I ever get an apartment in my own name

oh yeah. It is tough because one good break for you with regards to your ability to move or have better transportation would likely open up an entire world for you and lots of job opportunities. It sucks because so many people get stuck because of circumstances like this out of their control.

Nothing in Florida, but yeah 2 misdemeanors anywhere else. FL is the only state that recognizes adjudication withheld (you do the punishment whether it's a fine, probation etc; but legally it's not a guilty) so in FL 0 convictions, the other 49 lol don't know why i said 48 states, 2; but no felonies either way

Burned myself decently searing off some sous vide steaks last night.

Was doing the last one and failed to realize how hot the butter had become and placed it in the pan a little rough and didn't use tongs so splatter came back in a quick and fist sized splatter onto me and my stomach through my clothes. Thankfully I reacted quickly, turned off stove and started running cool water immediately and ran to the shower to minimize damage. For first few hours had some raised welts , only one pin sized blister thankfully. Burn cream and cold compress were a life saver.

Just some large red marks today..but could have been a lot worse.

Welp here's to it. Aldi (gorcery chain) is now hiring at 16, almost double what I got at Dunkin. Applied to all 14 positions they have posetd right now (throughout varying stores, sucks that you can't just apply and click which locations you willing to work out, each position at each store is it's own application)

Then there's a weekend only job but pays 18. 16 hours a week there compared to the 32 I was getting at dunkin, would basically be the same pay but working 2 days a week instead of 5 (add plasma then it's 300 a week vs 400 a week in favor of the weekend job. Didn't do plasma while I was at dunkin because I worked too early to go before work and after work is when they're packed, so would go from a 30-45 min line to a 2.5-3hr line so I always just said fuck it and didn't go)

Thanks not having high hopes though, when I was at dunkin, they were doing 13/hr back then; applied to pretty much every opening they had the 2 years I worked there, not even an interview. That's why I'm just spam applying pretty much anything mon-fri if the pay is shit and anything in general if it's 15+ or more; lol fuck nights and weekends for anything less than 15 (min wage just went up here to 11)

I would think seasonal retail stockroom/order fulfillment jobs would be ramping up about now. Try Target & Walmart while you're at it.

    Good luck.

I'll give Walmart a shot but the one over here is like McDonalds with the "up to 15/hr". Target last I checked is 15 flat maybe went up since min wage went up since they were doing 15, but I'm pretty sure the way I got fired from there, I'm on the blacklist from being employed by them again (lol when I worked at target I had an accident with a stack of carts I was collecting and did about a good 4grand damage to a sports car; terminated no the spot and banned from even shopping there for a year lmao)

Oh yea you're p much done with Target. My friend couldn't get a job this year at Krogers/Ralphs because he got fired 15+ years ago back when he was a stupid teen.

Yeah I was in high school for that; their fault though.

    A. The cart machine (which we're supposed to use by company policy) was broken

    B. It not only was my day off (I came in for someone who called out as cashier) the cart guy also called out so they asked me to come in to cashier and an hour later they pulled me off and put me on carts w/o the proper equipment. Lol that was the last time I ever said "yes" to coming into work on my day off at any job I've had going forward lmao
