ok I know persona 4 golden is on the switch but when I play the "nintendo and lofi" channel I expect first-party music only thanks. tbh this is an outrage and I am considering my legal options in the face of this fragrant false advertising

As a parent of a middle schooler and remembering what I was like in middle school. That is the age when kids start to really push the boundaries and explore. Cops getting involved can permanently damage a kids life rather than help them learn. I would absolutely try to reach out to the parents first to see if you can rectify it for something as small as this. Parents don't step up or the offense is larger? Then absolutely involve the cops.
In a perfect world, calling the cops would be fine. But we're far from perfect. I'd give the parents and kid a chance to rectify the situation, but if they step on your olive branch then yeah you gotta do what you gotta do.

Why am i the only peaceful alcoholic in this house lmao. i just drink in my room and mind my own business my uncle's friend is crashing here for a week and two nights in a row i've had to defuse a potential violent situation between the two of them and my uncle like i just want to play videogames in peace
i'm hopeful for a public caning
Just be like "Had you robbed us tomorrow that would've been a Steamdeck. Today you get a switch. Not the Nintendo one. Go get a branch from that tree"
The way I see it, if the parents didn't respond then:
1. This probably wasn't the first time they've done it. I'm guessing the $30 they offered to try to make things right didn't come from their parents. Hell, they might have gotten caught before, but whoever it was dropped it when the parents didn't respond, or when money was offered.
2. The parents not responding tells me that they don't give a shit that their kid is a criminal, and kind of indicates to me that there isn't a lot of... involvement let's say, on their part.
3. As already stated, you got lucky that it was "only" $80, and not the steam deck. I wish I could just piss away $80 like that. But if someone stole, let's say $80 worth of groceries off my porch, I'd be on the phone with the police immediately. The next person the kid steals from might not be as lucky and/or well off as you are. To that point...
4. They would have done it again if you didn't get the police involved. If you had just let it go, or taken the money, then that would just tell them that they could get away with it in the future.
Anyway, this was just my long-winded way of saying that you did the right thing, and shouldn't feel bad about it. If it wasn't you, it would have been someone else. Or hell, kid could get hurt or worse by stealing from the wrong porch.
Been busy so haven’t updated. Mom eventually contacted me begging to take down the video and will pay all items back. So didn’t file charges. Kid left a note with money apologizing and saying he will also try and get the items.
I think public shaming was worse than anything as now his school what he did and probably said something.
Took the fb post down too and told mom we wouldn’t press charges, but if he does it again, we will.
Also showed video to the neighbors who n case he decides to try a different house instead.
So hopefully this is the end of that.
Bullying in public wins again

When you said the mom was known to the girl scout mom, I assumed this was a difficult boy and a demoralized mother. People that don't give a fuck don't do girlscouts (because it is a pain in the ass and the girls barely tolerate it, so it is basically an activity for overactive mothers.)
....I just broke my piggy bank >< Going to have to find a new place to put my stray coins now, hopefully I can find a cute one. That one was something my parents got me years ago, it's survived a long time, but now../sigh.
Do my usual monthly ATM withdrawal. My bank has a new ATM.
It dispensed me on the default setting $100 bills instead of $20s. Make a 2nd transaction to get $20s. Will save the $100s for nieces Christmas gifts when that comes up in a few months. Still annoying.
Out of boredom, I calculated how much money I threw away donating whole blood at one blood/florida blood services (they just give you a movie ticket or a beach towel or a t-shirt) than if I were doing plasma the whole time. I got up to 8 gallons at one blood before I even know that selling plasma was a thing. 1 pint a donation, and you can do it once every 56 days, so it takes a long ass time to get to 8 gallons. If you took the equivalent amount of time and did bi weekly plasma instead and break it down to the average plasma cost (it's back loaded so when you go twice a week you always get less than first time than you do the 2nd), I basically gave away $74,000 in blood away for free that I coulda been getting paid for
Well the gs leader knows this mom. GS leader is not a mom. No idea if the mom of the thief has a kid in scouts. I see the leader on Thursday and I have questions.
Husband opened up our mailbox today and there was a sandwich bag with wood shavings in it. He didn’t open it and threw it away as he said there was something inside it.
So story may not be over yet.
Ordered security ring cameras now because we don’t have a shot of the mailbox.
/sigh
Also isn't tampering with the mail like... a federal crime or something? So he's got that going for him now... Although I guess that'd also apply to porch piracy.
As for fails... Had an allergic reaction to a new acid reflux med last week, which included this gnarly rash. Over the worst of it now, but the rash seems to have kicked off a flare up of my psoriasis... Ffs why does it always have to be something?
Really busy work day at my job catching up on tickets and issues after a full week of in person meetings last week for our yearly in person gathering. Then one of my part time jobs needed extra time today for a huge project that is coming up and the contractor they hired needed information and help from me to get the project moving, then my second part time job had a security occurrence happen and needed me to back up all the video files so they could be handed over to police. Started working at 8am, still working at 9:34pm minus a short break for dinner. Exhausting.
